Campgrounds near Parsons, Tennessee
Parsons sits in Decatur County on the western bank of the Tennessee River, roughly an hour east of Jackson and within a short drive of two of West Tennessee's larger state parks. RV renters use the town as a base for lakeside and riverside camping across Decatur, Perry, and Henderson counties.
The closest state-park camping is at Mousetail Landing State Park in Perry County near Linden, which offers a developed main campground with water and electric hookups plus a primitive riverside area at Spring Creek. Roughly 40 minutes northwest, Natchez Trace State Park anchors a 48,000-acre landscape of forest, lakes, and wildlife management land, with Pin Oak RV Campground on Pin Oak Lake and a separate Wrangler Horse Camp for equestrian rigs.
Private options round out the area. Sycamore Lake Campground in Lexington is a lakeside park on the Beech River watershed with full-hookup and waterfront sites, giving renters a non-state-park alternative when park sites fill.
Things to do near Parsons
Water dominates most trips. The Tennessee River runs along the eastern edge of the region and supports bass, bream, crappie, stripe, and catfish fishing from bank and boat, with a launch inside Mousetail Landing State Park. Pin Oak Lake at Natchez Trace State Park adds swimming beaches, motor boating, and shoreline fishing, and is the only motor-boat lake within the park.
On land, Natchez Trace State Park has hiking, paddling, and horseback riding, with hundreds of miles of riding trails in the adjoining state forest. Mousetail Landing's 8-mile Eagle Point Loop Trail leads to two backcountry shelters for day hikers and overnight backpackers.
Family stops close to town include the Parsons city park and splash pad and the Parkers Crossroads Battlefield walking trails, both useful for breaking up a driving day.

48° / 34°F 125 mmMild and wet; December is the wettest month
The region has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and muggy with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, while winters are mild but wet, with December typically the wettest month of the year. Snowfall averages only a couple of inches annually, so most parks stay accessible year round.
Mousetail Landing State Park is open for reservations year round, and the campground's maximum stay extends from 14 days to 28 days from December 1 through the end of February, useful for snowbird itineraries. Natchez Trace State Park is in the middle of a multi-year rebuild: the Pin Oak Lodge and Restaurant closed for demolition and reconstruction with a reopening anticipated in spring 2028, and Cub Lake Campground 2 and the Wrangler Campground are closed for renovations. Pin Oak Campground remains open but is being upgraded, so visitors will see active construction on site.
Peak demand runs from late spring through early fall, when lake swimming, boating, and long-weekend traffic push weekend availability tight.
How to book a site
Both Mousetail Landing and Natchez Trace are run by Tennessee State Parks and share a single reservation system. Sites can be booked online at the Tennessee State Parks reservation portal or by phone at 1-888-TN-PARKS, up to one year in advance. A non-refundable advanced reservation fee is charged per campsite.
Cancellations made two or more days before arrival receive a refund of campground fees minus the reservation fee. Cancelling one day out forfeits the first night, and same-day cancellations on multi-night stays forfeit the first two nights. Camping rates cover up to six people per site, with a two-tent limit and one wheeled camper per RV site.
Equestrian campers considering the Wrangler Horse Camp at Natchez Trace should confirm status with the park before booking, since it is currently closed for renovations; horse-stall reservations are handled through the visitor center at 731-968-3742. Sycamore Lake Campground books directly through its own website and by phone.
What to expect on the ground
Sites at Pin Oak RV Campground are gravel pads with picnic table, grill, and fire ring, and the campground accepts rigs up to 80 feet with full hookups, 20/30/50-amp service, showers, restrooms, laundry, and a dump station. Cell service is very limited inside much of Natchez Trace State Park, so travelers relying on connectivity should download maps and reservations in advance.
At Mousetail Landing, the main campground offers sites with water and electric hookups, a modern bathhouse, laundry, and a dump station, with WiFi on the lower-numbered sites. Spring Creek is primitive: waterfront sites on the Tennessee River with fire rings and picnic tables but portable toilets and no running water, and campers report heavy insect activity near the river.
Sycamore Lake Campground offers full-hookup lakeside pads and bathhouses, though reviewers note some leveling and utility quirks that can matter for larger rigs.

tnstateparks.com/parks/natchez-traceCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Parsons?
Yes, RV delivery in Parsons is one of the most popular options for first-time renters. Many RVezy hosts in the Parsons and Decatur County area will deliver the RV directly to your campsite at Natchez Trace State Park, Mousetail Landing, or even a private property along the Tennessee River, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through everything before they leave. That means you skip the stress of towing or driving a large rig down Highway 69 or the winding roads near Mousetail Landing. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it, and message the host for a delivery quote based on distance. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you're flying into Nashville (about 2 hours away) and renting locally.

Mileage policies vary by host, with some offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and others including RV rental with unlimited mileage. Always check the mileage section of the listing. For RV camping in Parsons trips, the state parks are the family pick with hiking, swimming beaches, and ranger programs. Reserve Natchez Trace and Mousetail Landing through reserve.tnstateparks.com up to one year in advance.
tnstateparks.com/parks/natchez-traceWhen is the best time of year to take a Parsons RV trip?
Parsons is a three-season destination with a sweet spot in spring and fall. April through early June brings dogwoods and wildflowers in bloom across Natchez Trace State Park with daytime highs of 70 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit, perfect for hiking and Tennessee River fishing. September and October are arguably the best months, with crisp mornings, fall color across the hardwood forests, lows in the 50s, and fewer bugs. July and August are warm and humid (highs near 90 degrees with afternoon thunderstorms), making lake swimming at Cub Lake especially welcome. Winter is mild (30s to 50s) and quiet, great for snagging cheap RV rental deals in Parsons. Pro tip: pack layers in spring and fall since mornings on the Tennessee River can be chilly even when afternoons are warm.
weather.gov/meg/I have never driven an RV. Is renting in Parsons a good idea for a first-timer?
Yes, Parsons is actually one of the easier places in Tennessee for first time renting an RV. The roads around Decatur County are wide, traffic is light compared to Nashville or Memphis, and I-40 runs straight east-west just north of town for stress-free highway miles. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the propane, water, slide-outs, generator, and dump procedures, and you can text them anytime during your trip. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host offering delivery and they'll set the RV up at your campsite. Pro tip: start with a travel trailer or smaller Class C for your first family RV trip Parsons, and book a weekend at Cedar Ridge RV Park where the owners help guide you in.
tn.gov/safety/driver-services/classd.htmlWhat happens if I have a breakdown or problem during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so whether you have a flat tire on Highway 412, a battery issue at Pin Oak Lake, or a tow need on the way back from Pickwick Landing, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also a quick text away for vehicle-specific questions like restarting the water pump or troubleshooting the generator, and RVezy's customer support team backs you up before, during, and after the trip. Decatur County is small but well-served by tow operators along the I-40 corridor. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's number in your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Parsons RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Cross-state travel is wide open. Your RV rental in Parsons is welcome anywhere in the continental United States, and popular routes include heading east to the Smoky Mountains, north to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, west to the Ozarks, or south to the Gulf Coast. Travel into Canada may be allowed but depends on the host and the insurance terms, so message the host directly from the listing before booking if Canada is part of your plan. One firm rule: travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: from Parsons, a classic 7-day loop is Nashville, Great Smoky Mountains, Chattanooga, and back, all under 800 total miles.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Tennessee RV trip from Parsons?
Fuel is one of the friendlier line items on a Tennessee trip. Tennessee gas prices typically run below the national average, and Parsons has multiple stations along Highway 412 and near I-40 exit 126. Expect a Class C motorhome to get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, a Class B campervan 18 to 22 MPG, and a truck pulling a travel trailer around 10 to 14 MPG. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, budget roughly $130 to $180 in fuel. Diesel pumps with RV-friendly lanes are easy to find at the Pilot and Love's truck stops along I-40 between Jackson and Nashville. Pro tip: fill up in Parsons or Lexington rather than waiting until you reach Nashville, where prices tend to be 20 to 40 cents higher per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Parsons?
For the best campgrounds near Parsons, plan ahead but don't panic. Natchez Trace State Park accepts reservations up to one year in advance through reserve.tnstateparks.com with a $5 non-refundable reservation fee, and the popular Cub Creek and Pin Oak sites fill up 3 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends and holidays like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Private parks like Cedar Ridge RV Park and Cherokee Marina usually have availability 2 to 4 weeks out for weeknights, and they're easier to grab last-minute. Most sites require a 2-night minimum and rates run $28 to $37 nightly at the state park. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, the state park reservation system shows a year's worth of openings for any site in a single click.
reserve.tnstateparks.com/natchez-trace/camping/What are driving conditions like around Parsons?
Driving around Parsons is genuinely pleasant for an RV. I-40 runs just north of town with wide lanes and easy fuel stops, while local highways like US-412 and US-641 are two-lane country roads with gentle rolling hills and minimal traffic. Watch for occasional deer at dawn and dusk, especially near Natchez Trace State Park, and be aware that summer afternoon thunderstorms can roll in quickly off the Tennessee River. The roads leading to riverfront marinas (like Bob's Landing Road) can be narrow and curvy, so go slow with bigger rigs. Snow is rare but the area does get occasional winter ice, mainly January through early February. Pro tip: cross the Tennessee River bridge at Perryville for one of the prettiest sunset drives in West Tennessee.

Natchez Trace State Park offers paved or gravel pads with electric and water at most sites, plus a centrally located dump station, two bathhouses in each campground, and a camp store at 22421 Natchez Trace Road in Lexington. You can fill fresh water tanks at the campground entrance and dump tanks at the designated station, no extra fee. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss in this rural part of West Tennessee, so download maps and shows before you arrive. Pro tip: Tennessee State Parks require certified heat-treated firewood, so buy on-site rather than bringing your own.

Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes usually have a built-in generator for boondocking near the Tennessee River, while campervans are nimble for exploring downtown Parsons or Decaturville. Linens, kitchenware, and outdoor chairs are often included or available as add-ons. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps to match your group size, and message the host to confirm Wi-Fi hotspot availability since rural coverage near Parsons can be spotty.

Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Parsons, and orientation walkthroughs usually take 30 to 45 minutes. Pro tip: ask about a generator add-on if you plan to dry camp along Tennessee River access points.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Parsons,%20TNHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book an RV in Parsons on RVezy, you pay through the platform using a credit or debit card. Your booking total typically splits into an initial payment at booking and the balance due before pickup. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (amount depends on the RV and trip length) and is released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape, undamaged, and with the agreed fuel and tank levels. There's no cash exchanged with the host. To avoid deposit issues, follow the walkthrough checklist, return the RV on time at the agreed location, and refill propane and fuel as your host requested. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, your host will appreciate the documentation as much as you will.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Parsons in the winter, and is it worth it?
Yes, a winter RV rental in Parsons is a hidden gem. West Tennessee winters are mild (typical December through February highs in the 45 to 55 degree range, lows in the 30s), and Natchez Trace State Park stays open year-round with heated bathhouses and electric hookups. Many RVezy hosts in Parsons offer winter-ready rigs with propane furnaces, heated holding tanks, and shore-power capability. You'll enjoy quieter trails at Pin Oak Lake, off-season fishing on the Tennessee River, and rates that often run 20 to 30 percent below summer pricing. Pro tip: ask the host to demonstrate the propane heat and how to keep the freshwater hose from freezing on the rare night that dips below 25 degrees, and you'll be cozy all weekend.
