Campgrounds and RV parks near Puryear, TN

Kentucky Lake anchors most trips. The lake is a strong fishery for largemouth bass, crappie, bream, and catfish, and the Paris Landing marina supports boating and watersports on open water. Paris Landing State Park also features a swimming beach, full-service marina, 18-hole championship golf course, and multiple hiking trails, which covers most family day-out needs from a single trailhead. On the Land Between the Lakes peninsula, visitors can build itineraries around elk and bison herds at the Bison Prairie, the Woodlands Nature Station, historical iron furnaces, Civil War sites, a working 1850s farm, and the Golden Pond Planetarium. Off the water, downtown Paris offers a compact court square with restaurants and shops roughly a 15 to 20 minute drive south of Puryear.

The area follows a humid subtropical pattern. Summers are hot with abundant precipitation, often featuring heavy downpours and afternoon thunderstorms, winters are cold with occasional snowfall, and rainfall is spread fairly evenly through the year. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping, with mild days, cool nights, and lake temperatures workable on the shoulders of the season. Summer is peak season on Kentucky Lake. Weekends fill quickly at private parks and at Paris Landing, so booking well in advance is important between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Independence Day and lake tournament weekends see the earliest sellouts. Winter camping is possible but stripped down. The Paris Landing campground offers 45 sites with water and 30- or 50-amp electric, 18 primitive campsites, and six camping cabins, and all areas are open year-round, though one of the two bathhouses may be closed seasonally and the camp store operates May through October. Inside Land Between the Lakes, Piney and Hillman Ferry run March through November, so winter travelers should confirm private-park hours before arrival.

Expect a lake-country setting rather than a mountain one. The terrain is rolling and wooded, sites tend to be back-in with gravel or grass pads, and shade is common under mature hardwoods. Paris Landing's main campground offers sites with water and 30- or 50-amp electric, accommodates RVs up to 38 feet, and has two bathhouses, a dump station, a laundry room, and a seasonal camp store. Full hookups are more typical at the private parks and the KOA than at state or federal sites. Cell coverage is generally serviceable near US Route 79 and Paris Landing, but drops off inside Land Between the Lakes. Grocery runs are easiest in Paris, Tennessee, about 15 miles south. Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall, so pack repellent and check kids after trail time. Tennessee State Parks campgrounds are pet-friendly with pets kept on leash, and only certified heat-treated firewood is permitted inside park boundaries.
