Campgrounds near Ridgely, Tennessee
Ridgely sits in Lake County in the northwest corner of Tennessee, minutes from Reelfoot Lake, a shallow cypress-studded lake formed by the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812. The area draws RV travelers for fishing, birding, and quiet lakefront camping rather than crowded resort amenities, and most sites cluster around the lake's north and south shores near Tiptonville and Hornbeak.
Camping options are compact and easy to compare. South - Reelfoot Lake State Park offers 86 paved campsites, all equipped with 20/30/50-amp electrical hookups and water hookups, three bathhouses (two with hot showers and one featuring laundry facilities and a dishwashing area), and a dump station at the entrance. The smaller Airpark North - Reelfoot Lake State Park provides 14 RV sites (accommodating rigs up to 35 feet) with 30-amp electric and water hookups, plus 10 primitive tent-only sites, served by a bathhouse with hot showers.
Private options round out the choices for travelers who want full hookups, casino access, or a simple overnight stop: Century Casino and RV Park, Sportsmans Resort, and Corner Storage and RV Hook-Ups all sit within easy driving distance of Ridgely.
Things to do near Ridgely
Reelfoot Lake is the anchor activity. The shallow, stump-filled lake is known for crappie, bluegill, and largemouth bass fishing, and small boats, canoes, and kayaks are the usual way to explore the cypress stands. The campground offers close access to fishing and boating on Reelfoot Lake, and visitors can bring small boats such as canoes or kayaks, or rent them from local businesses.
Birding is the other headline draw. Over 280 species of birds have been reported from the area, and during the winter, Reelfoot Lake is home to numerous bald eagles, thousands of ducks of many different species, and hundreds of American white pelicans. The park sits alongside the Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge, adding bottomland hardwood forest, cypress swamp, marsh, and open water habitats to explore.
For a break from the lake, Century Casino sits a short drive away in Caruthersville, Missouri, and the Great River Road along the Mississippi makes an easy day drive.

Winter is the marquee wildlife season. During the winter, Reelfoot Lake is home to numerous bald eagles, thousands of ducks, and hundreds of American white pelicans, experienced park naturalists lead daily bald eagle and waterfowl tours, and the annual Reelfoot Eagle Festival in February is a birdwatching destination, with bald eagle and waterfowl tours running in January and February. Nights are cold and campgrounds are quieter, so shoulder-season RV travelers can usually book on short notice.
Spring brings peak fishing pressure and full campgrounds. The South Campground is extremely busy during April and May. Crappie runs and warming water pull anglers in from across the region, so weekend sites go fast.
Summer is hot and humid with afternoon thunderstorms, and the park runs interpretive programs during these months. Fall cools off, foliage colors the bottomland forests, and migrating birds return. During spring and fall migration, watch for migrating songbirds and shorebirds.
How to book campsites near Ridgely
Reelfoot Lake State Park campsites are booked through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system. Advanced reservations are available prior to arrival, and may be made up to 1 year in advance. Check-in time is 4:00 pm and check-out time is 12:00 noon. Both campgrounds are open year-round for camping. For spring weekends, book as early as possible; the South Campground fills quickly in April and May.
The South Campground sits on Tennessee Highway 21-22 at the south end of Reelfoot Lake, while the Airpark North Campground lies at the north end near Tiptonville. The Check-in Station is located in the Camp Store. Campers with confirmed reservations can typically proceed directly to their site, and after-hours arrivals can check in with the campground host.
Private parks such as Century Casino and RV Park, Sportsmans Resort, and Corner Storage and RV Hook-Ups take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a working-lake atmosphere rather than a resort experience. Sites at the state park are close to the water, with fishing piers, boat launches, and a fish-cleaning house on property. The Airpark North Campground accommodates rigs up to 35 feet, so larger Class A renters should aim for the South Campground, which has longer paved pads and 50-amp service.
Rules are standard for Tennessee State Parks. Pets must be leashed, quiet hours are observed overnight, and the maximum stay is 14 days. Speed limits inside the campground are low, so watch for children on bikes near the loops.
Bring insect repellent in warm months, layers for cold snaps in winter, and a landing net if the kids plan to fish from the bank. Cell coverage in the surrounding refuge lands can be spotty, so download maps before leaving Tiptonville.
