Campgrounds and RV parks near Selmer, TN

Shiloh National Military Park is the primary draw, preserving the Civil War battlefield in the Western Theater. The park includes a visitor center, a driving tour of monuments and markers, and hiking trails across the grounds. The related Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center sits a short drive south in Mississippi. Water recreation centers on Pickwick Lake and Pickwick Landing State Park, with a public beach, boating, and fishing. Chickasaw State Park spans roughly 1,435 acres and offers Lake Placid for hiking, paddling, fishing, and swimming, along with an adjacent golf course. Selmer itself has small-town shopping, the Buford Pusser Home and Museum, and the McNairy County Historical Museum for a rainy afternoon.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of West Tennessee. March through May brings mild daytime temperatures and wildflowers along the Shiloh battlefield trails, though it is also the wettest stretch of the year and severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible across Tennessee, peaking in spring. September through November delivers cooler nights, lower humidity, and clear driving conditions, and this is when historic sites are at their best. Summer runs long, hot, and humid, with July averaging highs around 90 degrees Fahrenheit and thunderstorms building most afternoons. Shaded sites and full hookups with air conditioning become important during this window, and mosquitoes are active near the Tennessee River bottoms. Winter is short but wet, with January averaging lows near freezing and occasional light snow. Southern Tennessee typically records only a few inches of annual snowfall, but ice storms have occurred. Some private campgrounds keep partial hookups open year round, while state park facilities may reduce services in the off season. The tent campground and wrangler campground at Chickasaw State Park are currently closed for renovations, so travelers with horses should call the park at 888-867-2757 before planning a stop.

Roads into the area are two-lane state highways with rolling terrain and occasional low branches, so travelers in taller Class A or fifth-wheel rigs should plan routes on US-45 and US-64 where possible. Big rig access varies by property, and a call ahead to confirm pull-through length is worthwhile. At Chickasaw State Park, the RV campground offers sites with electric and water hookups along with picnic tables and grills, and firewood must be sourced inside the park or purchased as heat-treated wood due to invasive pest rules. Expect pine-shaded sites, humid summer nights, and a park store stocked with basics. Cell signal is workable in Selmer and along the main corridors but drops inside Shiloh National Military Park and along parts of the Tennessee River. Download offline maps before leaving town, and carry cash for smaller private campgrounds that may not accept cards.
