RV camping near Somerville, Tennessee
Somerville is the seat of Fayette County in West Tennessee, roughly forty miles east of Memphis along U.S. Highway 64. The town sits within the Memphis metropolitan area, so RV travelers get a rural base with quick freeway access to city attractions, sports tournaments, and the airport. Elevation is modest at about 400 feet, and the landscape is rolling farmland, hardwood bottomland, and small lakes fed by the Wolf and Loosahatchie river systems.
Campground options near Somerville range from small private parks to full-service resorts. Closer choices include Serendipity Brownsville's Venue, Resort, and RV Park and Cherokee Landing Campground, with Hidden Acres RV Park and Ashland RV Connections filling out the county-scale search. Agricenter RV Park, on the Agricenter International property on the Memphis side, is the go-to for renters who want full hookups near the city.
For a state-park experience, Chickasaw State Park lies in West Tennessee about 30 minutes south of Jackson, roughly an hour east of Somerville, and offers reservable RV sites through the Tennessee State Parks system.
Things to do around Somerville
Fayette County is quiet, agricultural country. Day trips focus on Memphis attractions such as Graceland, the Memphis Zoo, the National Civil Rights Museum, and Beale Street, all within an hour's drive west on I-40 or Highway 64. The historic town of LaGrange, one of the oldest incorporated communities in West Tennessee, is a short drive south for antebellum architecture and cycling on rural backroads.
Outdoor activity centers on lakes and river bottoms. Anglers fish for bass and crappie on nearby impoundments, and Chickasaw State Park to the east adds hiking, paddling, fishing, horseback riding, and birding on Lake Placid and surrounding trails. Shelby Farms Park, near Agricenter RV Park, offers paved bike trails, a resident bison herd, and a large playground network suited to families.

West Tennessee has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Spring is the wettest stretch: March through May brings the highest rainfall totals of the year and the most days with measurable precipitation, so pack for mud and monitor severe-storm forecasts. March is the month with the most precipitation in Somerville, averaging about six inches, and wildflowers and green-up make it a scenic time to camp if the weather cooperates.
Summer runs hot and sticky. The hottest month in Somerville is July, with an average high of 89°F and low of 71°F, and overnight lows stay in the low 70s through August. Afternoon thunderstorms are common. Booking sites with shade and reliable 30- or 50-amp power for air conditioning is important.
Fall is the most comfortable window for RV travel. September through November trend drier, with October the month with the fewest wet days, averaging about 7.7 days with measurable precipitation. Winters are cool rather than cold, with January averaging a high near 49°F and a low around 33°F, and only light, occasional snow.
How to book campgrounds near Somerville
Private parks around Somerville, including Serendipity Brownsville's Venue, Resort, and RV Park, Cherokee Landing Campground, Hidden Acres RV Park, and Ashland RV Connections, generally take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Agricenter RV Park accepts bookings by phone or reservation form and advises reserving in advance for full-hookup sites.
For state parks, Chickasaw and other Tennessee State Parks use a single online reservation system at reserve.tnstateparks.com. Advanced reservations may be made up to one year in advance, and a non-refundable advance reservation fee applies per campsite. Maximum stay at Chickasaw is 14 consecutive days, extended to 28 days from December 1 through February 29. Cancellations two or more days before arrival are refunded minus the advance reservation fee, while cancellations one day out forfeit the first night, so lock in dates early for spring and fall weekends.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Somerville skew practical rather than resort-style. Expect gravel or grass pads, mixed 30- and 50-amp electric, water, and often full sewer at the private parks, with bathhouses, laundry, and dump stations at the larger operations such as Agricenter RV Park. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the U.S. 64 corridor but can weaken on rural backroads.
Roads into Fayette County are flat and two-lane, easy driving for first-time RV renters. Grocery, fuel, and propane are available in Somerville, Oakland, and Arlington. Mosquitoes and ticks are active from spring through early fall, so bring repellent, and store food securely: raccoons and opossums are common visitors after dark.
