Campgrounds near Tennessee Ridge

Tennessee Ridge is a small town in Houston County in the northwest corner of Middle Tennessee, positioned between the Cumberland River to the north and Kentucky Lake to the west. The town sits within a short drive of Clarksville, Dickson, Paris, Waverly, and Camden, and a little over an hour from Nashville. That location makes it a practical base for RV trips built around lake recreation on the Tennessee River system. RV renters have a mix of options within a short drive. Elk Harbor Lakeside RV Park and Hidden Haven offer private-park stays close to town, while Dixieland Country Cabins and Campground adds cabin-plus-campsite flexibility for mixed groups. For state-park camping, Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park and Paris Landing State Park both sit on the western shore of Kentucky Lake within roughly 30 to 60 minutes of Tennessee Ridge. Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park encompasses 2,700 acres along the western shore of Kentucky Lake, and Paris Landing State Park sits on 1,126 acres on the same shoreline. Together they anchor most of the public camping in the region.

Things to do near Tennessee Ridge

Water recreation dominates the area. Paris Landing State Park offers direct access to Kentucky Lake, with a full-service marina, boat ramps, a swimming beach, and an 18-hole championship golf course. The park sits on a wide stretch of the lake, making it a strong location for fishing, boating, and waterskiing. On land, Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park adds hiking and history. The park has more than 20 miles of hiking trails through wooded hills above Kentucky Lake, with park activities including paddling, disc golf, swimming, hiking, fishing, and birding. A high point in the park delivers panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding landscape. The Tennessee River Folklife Interpretive Center at Nathan Bedford Forrest covers the lifeways and customs of people on the Tennessee River, along with Civil War history and live animal exhibits, useful for a rainy afternoon with kids.

Summer is peak season on Kentucky Lake. Warm days, long evenings, and lake access draw the heaviest traffic from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and holiday weekends around Independence Day and Labor Day fill fastest at the state-park campgrounds. Holiday weekends may require longer minimum stays at cabins. Spring and fall are quieter and often more comfortable for hiking and touring. Spring brings the region's wettest stretch, with May the wettest month at the nearby Clarksville station, averaging around 6 inches of rain. Fall trends drier with cooler nights and good foliage on the ridges around the lake. Boaters and anglers continue to use both state parks well into October. Winter camping is possible but limited. At Paris Landing, all camping areas are open year-round, though one of the two bathhouses may be closed seasonally and the camp store operates May through October. At Nathan Bedford Forrest, the Happy Hollow and Lakefront Campgrounds are closed for structural renovations with reopening anticipated in early 2027, so travelers should confirm status before booking.

Excellent communication! We had the RV dropped at a very busy location and the communication and meet up were excellent. The RV was exceptionally clean and had everything we needed. We cooked all of our meals, the kitchen setup had all the pots, pans, and utensils to cook all our meals. It was hot and the air conditioner worked great. Bedding for all beds was supplied and we were very comfortable. Lots of extras were supplied to make our camping experience comfortable. For example, we had several outdoor rugs to help control mud and weeds, camp chairs, extra hand lights to use at night, lots of towels were stocked up in the bathroom, extra cozy blankets for lounging on the couches. Indoor/Outdoor lights and electric awning were excellent for hanging outside the RV. We appreciated all the extra touches and for the extra help of getting the RV to our busy location!

Phone booking is also available through central reservations at 888-867-2757, or directly with the park: Nathan Bedford Forrest at 731-593-6445 and Paris Landing at 731-641-4465. For summer weekends, reserve well in advance; state-park cabins at Paris Landing typically sell out first.

What to expect

Sites at the state parks are geared for standard rigs. Paris Landing offers 45 sites with water and 30- or 50-amp electric, 18 primitive campsites, and six camping cabins, with sites accommodating RVs up to 38 feet in length. The main campground has two bathhouses, a dump station, a laundry room, and a camp store open May through October. At Nathan Bedford Forrest, both the Happy Hollow and Lakefront Campgrounds are closed for renovation through 2026 with reopening anticipated in early 2027, so travelers should confirm current availability before planning a stay. Private parks near Tennessee Ridge generally offer full hookups and are better suited to larger rigs. Expect wooded, hilly terrain, lake breezes, and abundant wildlife including deer and wild turkey. Tennessee State Parks asks that all campfires be made with heat-treated wood or downed wood collected inside the park, and untreated wood should not be brought in. Pets are welcome on leash at most campgrounds.
