Campgrounds and RV parks near Troy, TN

Fishing drives most trips. Reelfoot Lake produces crappie, bluegill, largemouth bass, and catfish, and anglers can fish by boat, from the bank, pier, and boardwalk. A special lake permit is required in addition to a Tennessee fishing license. Non-anglers have plenty to fill a day. Reelfoot Lake State Park runs pontoon and van tours, rents kayaks and canoes year-round from the South Campground camp store, and maintains several easy hiking trails plus a cypress boardwalk near the visitor center. Bald eagles nest in the park, and additional eagles arrive each winter, along with an American white pelican migration in the fall. Off the water, Discovery Park of America in Union City is the main family attraction, and Troy itself offers small-town dining and grocery stops before heading back to camp.

Spring is the busiest season around Reelfoot Lake. The South Campground at Reelfoot Lake State Park is noted by the park as extremely busy during April and May, when crappie fishing peaks. Reservations well in advance are strongly recommended for any weekend stay in this window. Summer brings hot, humid weather with July highs averaging near 88°F and afternoon thunderstorms. The park runs interpretive programs during the summer months, and a campground host is on site at the South Campground. Biting insects are heaviest near the water, so screens and repellent matter more here than at inland parks. Fall is quieter and often more comfortable, with lower humidity and the annual American white pelican celebration in late October drawing birders. Winter is eagle season, and the park offers eagle tours during the winter months. Campsites at Tennessee State Parks are generally available year-round, though specific amenities may vary by season, so check with the park before arrival.

The state park campgrounds are paved. The South Campground has 20/30/50-amp electric and water at all 86 sites, with three bathhouses and a dump station at the entrance. Airpark North has 14 RV sites with 30-amp electric and water plus 10 primitive tent sites, a bathhouse with hot showers, and a nearby dump station. Neither campground has sewer at the site. Airpark North accepts rigs up to about 35 feet, while the South Campground handles rigs up to roughly 70 feet. Quiet hours run from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am, the campground speed limit is 10 mph, and only one wheeled camper is allowed per site. Boaters should watch for submerged cypress stumps and stay clear of the spillway. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Troy and Union City but can be patchy along the lakeshore.
