Kristen was a fantastic host. We arrived to everything set up and hooked up. The RV was clean and clean linens and towels were on the beds. The outdoor kitchen was perfect for breakfast and the outside fridge was used constantly. Communication was amazing. We had a flight cancelled and Kristen made it work so we didn't miss a thing.

Great small RV with plenty of amenities. Karina was a great host and worked with us on pick up and drop off times.

CODY D. - Jun 2026

Such an awesome experience. We spent a few days at Colorado Bend State Park and the trailer was perfect. There were not any water/electrical hookups at our campsite, but we were able to fill the RV with potable water, and run the necessary items (lights, water pump, heater) on battery/generator. Such an awesome trip and this travel trailer made the experience much more enjoyable! Karina and Ivan were hospitable AND ensured that we had everything we needed for our trip. 10/10 recommend.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Castroville, TX

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Castroville, TX?

RV rental in Castroville, TX is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Texas Hill Country and San Antonio area. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $300, and larger Class A coaches go from $250 to $450. Because hosts set their own nightly rates on RVezy, you can filter by budget to find a cheap RV rental in Castroville, especially for midweek bookings. Pro tip: booking Sunday through Thursday and avoiding busy festival weekends (like St. Louis Day in late August) often saves 20 to 30 percent. Many hosts also discount weekly bookings, so a 7-night Medina River stay can be a great value.

What do I need to rent an RV in Castroville, TX?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Castroville, TX. There is no special endorsement or commercial driver's license required in Texas, even for big Class A motorhomes you'll see cruising US-90. Renters generally need to be 25 or older and upload a photo of their driver's license through RVezy for quick ID verification. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit from your home country's auto association before you fly in. Most first-time renters are surprised how easy the process is, often completing booking and verification in under 15 minutes.

What if I need to cancel my Castroville RV trip?

Booking is low-risk. RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. If plans change, refund eligibility depends on how far out from your trip you are. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a full refund or travel credit so your Castroville plans stay on track. Review the full cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before you book so you know exactly what to expect.

Can I bring my dog on my Castroville RV rental?

Yes, Castroville is a fantastic dog-friendly destination and many hosts offer pet-friendly RV rentals in Castroville. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy when searching, message the host to confirm any pet fee or rules, and you are good to go. Castroville Regional Park welcomes leashed pets at its campsites, and the shaded paths along the Medina River are a treat for active pups. Landmark Inn State Historic Site's grounds are also leashed-pet friendly for short visits. Pro tip: bring a long lead so your dog can cool off near the Medina River, and keep pets out of posted no-pet areas like playgrounds.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Castroville?

Yes, RV delivery in Castroville is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you have never towed before. Many RVezy hosts in the Castroville and greater San Antonio area will deliver the RV directly to Castroville Regional Park, Hidden Valley RV Park, or even your private driveway, level it, hook up water and 30/50-amp power, and walk you through every system. Just filter listings by Delivery and enter your destination address. Delivery fees usually range from $2 to $5 per mile round-trip. For a stress-free first-time motorhome rental in Castroville, delivery is hands-down the smartest move.

How far can I drive on my Castroville RV rental?

You can go just about anywhere in Texas on a Castroville RV trip, and some hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage so you don't have to watch the odometer. From Castroville, San Antonio's River Walk is just 25 miles east, Bandera (the "Cowboy Capital") is 35 miles north, Garner State Park on the Frio River is about 75 miles northwest, and Big Bend National Park sits roughly 380 miles west. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night and charge $0.30 to $0.45 per extra mile. Where can I stay overnight in an RV in Castroville?

Castroville has some of the best campgrounds near Castroville for any size RV. Castroville Regional Park sits on 126 wooded acres along the Medina River with full hookups, 30/50-amp service, a swimming pool, and miles of hiking trails. Hidden Valley RV Park offers spacious riverfront sites with 20/30/50-amp service and Medina River frontage. The Alsatian RV Resort pairs upscale hookups with an on-site golf course. For RV camping in Castroville, book Regional Park reservations through the City of Castroville a few weeks ahead, especially for fall weekends and St. Louis Day in late August.

When is the best time to rent an RV in Castroville, TX?

The sweet spot for an RV rental in Castroville is mid-October through late April, when daytime highs sit in the 65 to 80°F range and evenings are crisp and campfire-perfect. Spring (March to May) brings bluebonnets and wildflowers along FM 471 and the Medina River trails. Summers are hot (highs from June to September often hit 95 to 100°F), so plan early-morning hikes and rely on the RV's air conditioning during the day. Winters are mild with rare freezes, making Castroville one of the few places in the country where year-round RV camping is genuinely comfortable. Local tip: visit during St. Louis Day (late August) for the oldest Catholic parish festival in Texas.

I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?

You'll do great, especially in Castroville where the roads are wide, flat, and stress-free compared to big-city driving. Every RVezy host gives a full pickup orientation walking you through driving, leveling, hookups, propane, the awning, and the dump valves, so you're never left guessing. For a first time renting an RV, consider starting with a smaller travel trailer or Class C motorhome, both easier to maneuver than a Class A. From Castroville, US-90 west toward Hondo is a perfect practice stretch: light traffic, gentle curves, and plenty of pull-offs. You can also message your host beforehand with any questions, and RVezy support is a tap away 24/7.

What if something breaks down during my trip?

You are never on your own. Every Castroville RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If something inside the RV stops working (the AC, fridge, or slide-out), message your host directly through the RVezy app, they know their rig best and often troubleshoot in minutes. RVezy support is also available around the clock to help with anything urgent. Most of Castroville sits within 30 minutes of San Antonio service shops, and there are auto parts stores in nearby Hondo if you need supplies fast. Help is always close.

What are the best road trip destinations from Castroville?

Castroville is perfectly positioned for an RV road trip from Castroville into the heart of Texas. Top routes: San Antonio (25 miles east, 30 minutes) for the River Walk and Missions; Bandera (35 miles north, 50 minutes) for honky-tonks and dude ranches; Garner State Park on the Frio River (75 miles northwest, 1.5 hours) for tubing and jukebox dances; Lost Maples State Natural Area (90 miles northwest, 2 hours) for fall color; Fredericksburg wine country (90 miles north, 2 hours); and Big Bend National Park (380 miles west, 6 hours) for desert mountain magic. Cross-border travel to Mexico isn't permitted on RVezy rentals, but everywhere above is fair game.

How much will I spend on fuel during my Castroville RV trip?

Fuel is easier to budget than most people expect. Travel trailers don't burn extra gas beyond your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 MPG towing), Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A coaches average 6 to 10 MPG. Texas gas prices generally run 20 to 40 cents below the national average, with Buc-ee's in Luling and the Valero in Castroville among the cheapest stops. For a typical 3-night Castroville to Hill Country loop (about 250 miles), budget $100 to $180 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Castroville or Hondo before heading deep into Hill Country, where stations get sparse west of Bandera.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Castroville?

For most Castroville RV camping, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is plenty, and that flexibility is one of the things travelers love about this area. Castroville Regional Park takes reservations directly through the City of Castroville and fills up fastest on spring weekends and around St. Louis Day in late August, so aim for 6 to 8 weeks out then. Texas State Parks like Garner and Lost Maples book through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system and can fill up to 5 months ahead for peak fall and holiday weekends. Pro tip: midweek arrivals almost always have walk-up availability.

What's driving an RV in and around Castroville like?

Driving is refreshingly easy. Castroville itself is a small, historic town with low-traffic streets, and US-90 (the main route in and out) is a wide, flat four-lane highway with generous shoulders, ideal for first-time RV drivers. Watch for low-hanging pecan branches on Houston Square's older streets if you're in a tall Class A, and avoid the narrow Alsace-style historic block (Florence Street near Houston Square) with anything over 25 feet. Heading into San Antonio? Skip downtown's low overpasses on I-35 and stick to Loop 1604. Spring brings occasional flash flooding on low-water crossings near the Medina River, so check the Texas DOT DriveTexas map before crossing FM 471 after heavy rain.

What hookups and amenities will I find at Castroville campgrounds?

Expect full-service hookups at almost every park in the area. Castroville Regional Park offers water and 30/50-amp electric at every site, plus a public dump station, a swimming pool, laundry, and clean restrooms with showers. Hidden Valley RV Park provides 20/30/50-amp service with full water, sewer, and electric, plus laundry and gathering areas. The Alsatian RV Resort has full hookups, a pool, clubhouse, and golf course access. Need to dump or fill water mid-trip? Castroville Regional Park's dump station is the most central. Wi-Fi can be inconsistent at riverside sites, so download entertainment before you arrive.

What features and equipment come with a Castroville RV rental?

You'll be impressed how loaded these rigs are. Most Castroville RV rentals on RVezy include a queen or king bed, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), bathroom with shower and toilet, dinette that converts to extra sleeping space, roof AC and furnace, awning, and seatbelts for safe travel. Many also offer a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and a generator for off-grid Hill Country stops. Family-size Class C and travel trailer models often sleep 6 to 8, making them ideal for a family RV trip Castroville. Check each listing's amenities tab to confirm exactly what's included, and message the host if you need something specific like a CPAP-friendly outlet or a kid's car seat anchor.

What add-ons and pickup options are available?

Hosts offer a great menu of add-ons to make your trip easier. Popular extras include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits with pots, plates, and utensils ($25 to $50), bike racks, generators ($25 to $50 per night), portable grills, kayaks (perfect for the Medina River), and camping chairs. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Castroville, but many hosts offer delivery to Castroville Regional Park or nearby campgrounds for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies usually include 100 to 150 free miles per night with additional miles at $0.30 to $0.45. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linen kit on your first trip, it is the closest thing to a hotel-on-wheels experience.

How do payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and secure. When you book your campervan or motorhome rental in Castroville on RVezy, you pay the trip total (rental, fees, and protection plan) through the platform with a credit or debit card, no cash is ever exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is placed as a separate hold on your card before the trip (amount varies by RV) and is released after the host confirms the rig was returned in good shape. To avoid any hiccups, take dated photos at pickup and dropoff, return with a full fuel and propane tank, and empty the holding tanks if your host requires it.

How do I handle the South Texas summer heat in an RV?

Castroville summers are hot but very manageable with the right rig and game plan. Daytime highs from June through September regularly hit 95 to 100°F, so book an RV with a strong roof-mounted air conditioner (and a second AC unit if you're traveling with 4 or more people) and confirm the campground offers 50-amp service to keep both ACs humming. Park in shade whenever possible, Castroville Regional Park and Hidden View RV Park both have shaded riverfront sites under giant cypress and pecan trees. Drive early morning or after 5 PM to ease the load on the engine. And the Medina River swimming holes? Free, refreshing, and famously cold even in August.
