Off-park, Bulverde puts campers within easy driving distance of San Antonio's River Walk and missions, Boerne's German-heritage main street, and New Braunfels.

Guadalupe River State Park is open year-round, but the busiest stretch runs March through November, with summer weekends filling first as families come to cool off in the river. Spring brings wildflowers and moderate temperatures, and May is the wettest month, so watch river levels and forecasts before booking a riverside site. Summer is hot and muggy, with August highs averaging in the mid-90s Fahrenheit and river swimming at its most popular. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and Gulf tropical systems can occasionally push heavy rain inland from June through October, sometimes closing low-water crossings and trails. There is no full camp store on site, so stock groceries and camping supplies in Bulverde or Spring Branch before arrival. Ice, firewood, and basic items are sold at park headquarters. Styrofoam and glass are prohibited along the river banks and in the water. Bring water shoes; the riverbed is rocky.
