Campgrounds and RV parks near El Lago, TX

El Lago sits on the north shore of Clear Lake in southeastern Harris County, wedged between Taylor Lake and NASA Parkway. The city grew alongside the Johnson Space Center in the 1960s and remains a small residential community inside the larger Clear Lake and Bay Area region. For RV travelers, that location matters: El Lago is roughly 25 miles southeast of downtown Houston and within a short drive of Kemah, Seabrook, and Galveston Bay. There are no campgrounds inside El Lago itself, but several RV parks operate in the surrounding Bay Area corridor. Options within a short drive include Brickhouse RV Resort, Marina Bay RV Resort, Jackie's Place RV Resort, Gordy Road RV Park, and USA RV Resorts Willow Lake. These parks lean toward full-hookup, long-stay-friendly formats typical of the Houston Gulf Coast rather than tent-style state park camping. For state-park camping with beach access, most travelers drive south to Galveston Island. For lakeside or bayou-side stays, the Clear Lake and Trinity Bay corridors are closer to El Lago and easier to reach without crossing Houston traffic.

Private RV resorts near El Lago, including Brickhouse RV Resort, Marina Bay RV Resort, Jackie's Place RV Resort, Gordy Road RV Park, and USA RV Resorts Willow Lake, each handle their own reservations directly by phone or through their websites. Availability tightens around Space Center Houston school breaks, spring break week in March, and major boating and fishing events on Clear Lake. For Texas state parks in the wider region, such as Galveston Island State Park and Sheldon Lake State Park, reservations go through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which uses a rolling five-month booking window that opens at 8 a.m. Central. Coastal state park sites for weekends in spring and fall often sell out the day they release. For federal recreation areas farther out, use Recreation.gov. Book earlier for holiday weekends and hurricane-free shoulder months.
