Campgrounds and RV parks near Escobares, TX

Escobares sits in Starr County along the Rio Grande in deep South Texas, roughly midway between Rio Grande City and Falcon Lake. The surrounding brush country is part of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, a subtropical region known for birding, warm winters, and reservoir fishing. RV travelers use Escobares as a base for exploring the 84,000-acre Falcon International Reservoir and the Valley's wildlife refuges. The closest public campground is Falcon State Park, a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department site on Falcon Lake with full-hookup (electric, water and sewer) sites, water-electric sites, and screened shelters. Private options in and around the area include Oso Blanco Motel and RV Park, Lakefront Lodge, Amigo Inn and RV Park, and Sleepy Valley Ranch, which cater to snowbirds and short-stay travelers moving between McAllen, Laredo, and the border. Most sites here are level, sun-exposed, and built for larger rigs. Shade is limited, so awnings and reliable A/C matter more than in other Texas regions.

Falcon State Park reservations go through the Texas State Parks reservation system operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Reservations can be made for today and can be made up to 5 months in advance online or by phone, and a day-use entrance fee applies on top of the site fee. Holiday weekends and the winter peak fill first, so reserve early. Private parks such as Oso Blanco Motel and RV Park, Lakefront Lodge, Amigo Inn and RV Park, and Sleepy Valley Ranch typically take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Monthly winter rates are common in this region, and long-stay Winter Texan sites are often locked in months ahead. Bring proof of reservation and photo ID, and for state park stays consider a Texas State Parks Pass if planning multiple visits.
