Campgrounds and RV parks near Hidalgo, TX

Hidalgo sits at the southern tip of Texas in the Rio Grande Valley, directly across the border from Reynosa, Mexico. The area is a long-established winter destination for RV travelers, and Hidalgo County holds one of the densest concentrations of RV resorts in the state. Most parks cater to a mix of short-term travelers and long-stay Winter Texans, and amenities skew toward pools, clubhouses, laundry, and organized social calendars. RV renters have easy access to a range of nearby options. Twin Lakes RV Park and Chimney Park Waterfront RV Resort sit close to Hidalgo and the river corridor, while Mission Bell and Trade Winds RV Resort, Oleander Acres RV Resort, and El Valle Del Sol are clustered in and around Mission and Alamo, a short drive north. The area is flat, easy to navigate for larger rigs, and served by Expressway 83, which links the Valley communities. Grocery, fuel, and medical services are widely available, and border crossings, birding centers, and state parks are all within a short drive.

For private RV resorts around Hidalgo, book directly with the park or through an RV rental platform. Winter Texan resorts fill up months in advance for the November-through-March window, and many sites are held by returning long-stay guests, so reserve as early as possible if the trip falls in peak season. Off-season stays in late spring and summer are far easier to secure on short notice. For state park camping at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, reservations go through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system and can be made up to five months in advance. Day-use passes are available up to one month ahead. Bentsen no longer allows RV camping inside the park; sites are primitive walk-in, so plan power and water needs accordingly and use a private resort for full hookups.
