Kenefick camping overview
Kenefick sits in Liberty County in southeast Texas, at the junction of Farm-to-Market roads 1008 and 2797, about 41 miles northeast of Houston. The area is flat, wooded, and humid, with pine and hardwood forest giving way to farmland and Trinity River bottomland. RV travelers use Kenefick as a low-traffic base for exploring the Piney Woods, the Gulf Coast, and greater Houston without paying big-city rates.
Most overnight options are private RV parks near the US-90 and Highway 146 corridors that run through nearby Dayton and Liberty. Highway 90 RV Resort and Country Pines RV Park sit close to town, while Texas Palms RV Park, The Retreat RV Resort & Camping, and Lost River RV Park serve travelers looking for full-hookup sites with quick highway access.
Public-land camping is a short drive away. Lake Livingston State Park lies to the north in the Piney Woods, and Big Thicket National Preserve, headquartered near Kountze, protects a large mosaic of forest and waterway units used for hiking, paddling, and backcountry camping.
Things to do around Kenefick
The Trinity River and its oxbow lakes drive most of the outdoor activity in the area. Anglers target bass, catfish, and crappie, and paddlers put in for slow float trips through cypress and tupelo bottomland. Lake Livingston, to the north, is one of the largest reservoirs in Texas and supports fishing, boating, kayaking, and swimming from the state park shoreline.
Big Thicket National Preserve does not have developed campgrounds, but visitors can camp in much of the preserve's backcountry with a free permit, and trails and paddling routes are open year-round. The Neches River and Village Creek offer sandbar paddle-camping. For families, Houston-area attractions including the Space Center, museums, and the Downtown Aquarium are within roughly an hour's drive, making Kenefick a workable base for a mixed outdoors-and-city trip.

Southeast Texas has a long camping season, but spring and fall are the most comfortable windows. March through May brings warm days, wildflowers, and active fishing, though thunderstorms and occasional flooding along the Trinity River are common. October and November are typically drier and mild, with cooler nights and far fewer mosquitoes.
Summer runs hot and humid, with afternoon highs in the 90s Fahrenheit and heavy humidity that lingers into the night. Full-hookup sites with 50-amp service are essential for running air conditioning. Atlantic hurricane season peaks from August through October, and travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories, since Liberty County has been affected by inland flooding from past storms.
Winters are mild but wet. Hard freezes are brief, and most private parks stay open year-round. Big Thicket allows backcountry camping year-round, but from October through February hunting season restricts camping to units where hunting is not allowed.

We had a great time with our granddaughters. They really wanted an "RV" trip and this coach wowed them. Each had their own bunk. They loved that the coach had everything their home has. The coach drove smoothly once I got used to the handling and the owners were very easy to deal with and helpful.

Mike and Tammy were great. This was my first time renting and driving an RV. They went out of there way to make my experience as smooth as possible. I would definitely suggest Mike and Tammy and this RV to others!

What to expect at Kenefick campgrounds
Expect flat, wooded terrain, easy highway access, and a mix of long-term residents and short-stay travelers at private parks. Sites are typically level with concrete or gravel pads, and full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service are standard. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the US-90 and US-59 corridors but can weaken inside the Big Thicket units.
Bugs are a real factor. Mosquitoes, ticks, and biting flies are active from spring through fall, especially near water. Alligators live in area lakes and slow-moving waterways, so keep pets leashed and away from shorelines.
Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are available in Dayton, Liberty, and Cleveland, all within a short drive. Summer thunderstorms can be intense, so secure awnings and check weather radar before setting up.
