Campgrounds and RV parks near Laguna Heights, TX

The Laguna Madre bay and the Gulf shoreline drive most of what visitors do here. Families use South Padre Island for swimming, sandcastle lessons, dolphin-watching cruises, and Sea Turtle Inc. rescue tours, while anglers fish the jetties at Isla Blanca Park or wade the bay flats for redfish and trout. On the mainland, the Port Isabel Lighthouse State Historic Site anchors a walkable downtown of seafood restaurants and shops. Birders head inland to Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, which has more recorded bird species than any other refuge in the National Wildlife Refuge System and hosts the largest ocelot population in the United States. Rocket-launch viewing across the bay toward the SpaceX Starbase site in Boca Chica has also become a common day-trip draw for families staying near Laguna Heights.

Winter is the marquee RV season. Daytime highs typically sit in the upper 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit, and Winter Texans from the northern states and Canada fill parks from roughly November through March. Long-stay sites at parks like Long Island Village Rental and Holiday Out RV Park book out months in advance for this window, and holiday weekends around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year are the tightest. Spring brings warm, breezy weather ideal for beach days, plus a spring-break spike in March when South Padre Island draws a large college crowd. Fall shoulder season, roughly late September into early November, is quieter but overlaps with the peak of Atlantic hurricane season, which climatologically peaks in September for the western Gulf. Summer is hot and humid with regular afternoons in the low 90s Fahrenheit. Bookings ease slightly midweek, but weekends stay busy with regional families from the Rio Grande Valley.

Sites in this area sit on flat, sandy coastal terrain that generally needs little leveling but offers limited natural shade. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, water, and sewer are standard at the larger resorts, and most parks include laundry, a pool, and a dog area. Cell service is reliable across Laguna Heights, Port Isabel, and the developed portion of South Padre Island. Coastal wind is the main environmental factor. Weather may change quickly, so guests are advised to secure awnings and other items against sudden gusty winds. Mosquitoes and biting flies pick up after rain, especially in late summer and early fall. Grocery, fuel, propane, and RV supply stops are concentrated along State Highway 100 between Laguna Heights and the causeway.
