Campgrounds near Lumberton, Texas
Lumberton sits in southeast Texas just north of Beaumont, on the edge of the Big Thicket National Preserve and the Piney Woods. The area offers RV travelers a mix of state park camping and full-hookup private parks, with easy access to I-10, US-69/96, and the Gulf Coast.
Hilltop at Village Creek State Park is the closest public option, with a loop of electric RV sites in the pines near Village Creek itself. Private parks fill in the gaps: Red Cloud RV Park and Smith Lake RV Park serve travelers wanting quieter, longer-stay setups, while Beaumont RV Park and Marina puts renters on the water south of town. Families looking for on-site amenities often choose Boomtown USA RV Resort and Waterpark.
Most trips combine a state park stay for hiking and paddling with a private park closer to Beaumont for shopping, groceries, and restaurants.
Things to do around Lumberton
Village Creek State Park is the main draw. The park sits on the edge of the Big Thicket and offers hiking, mountain biking, fishing, paddling, and birding along Village Creek. The swim beach is currently reachable only by kayak or canoe due to past flood damage, and swimming is temporarily allowed at the canoe launch area.
The surrounding Big Thicket National Preserve adds paddling routes on Village Creek and the Neches River plus miles of forest hiking. Anglers fish the Neches and nearby lakes for bass and catfish.
In town, Lumberton has grocery stores, restaurants, and fuel within a short drive of the state park entrance. Beaumont, about 15 minutes south, adds museums, a zoo, and big-box shopping for longer trips.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Lumberton area. March through May brings wildflowers and comfortable temperatures, though thunderstorms and heavy downpours are common. October and November are typically drier and cooler, with fewer bugs on the trails. Village Creek State Park lists its busy season as February through September, so weekend sites book out well ahead in that stretch.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs in the low nineties and frequent thunderstorms. The upper Texas coast is one of the wettest parts of the state, and Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November with the peak risk from mid-August into October. Travelers in that window should watch National Hurricane Center outlooks and plan flexible dates.
Winter is mild, with daytime highs typically in the low sixties and only occasional freezes. Some flood-damaged trails and campsites at Village Creek remain closed, so check the park alerts page before booking.

How to book near Lumberton
Village Creek State Park sites are reserved through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department system on ReserveAmerica. Campsites can be booked up to five months in advance, and reservations are strongly recommended for weekends and holidays. A daily entrance fee applies per person age thirteen and older in addition to the campsite fee.
Group sites at the park cannot be booked online and require a call to the TPWD group reservation line. If a reservation is a no-show by noon the day after the scheduled arrival, the rest of the stay is cancelled automatically.
Red Cloud RV Park, Beaumont RV Park and Marina, Smith Lake RV Park, and Boomtown USA RV Resort and Waterpark are private and book directly through each park by phone or website.
What to expect on site
Hilltop at Village Creek State Park has a loop of back-in electric sites under pine and hardwood cover. Sites sit close together and cell coverage can be spotty inside the park. The gate is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and late arrivals should call the park in advance.
Private parks around Lumberton and Beaumont generally offer full hookups, longer pull-throughs, and paved or gravel pads suited to larger rentals. Big rigs should confirm site length and low-branch clearance when booking, especially at wooded sites.
Bring strong insect repellent for any stay near Village Creek or the Big Thicket, and pack rain gear even on short summer trips.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Lumberton, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lumberton, TX?
RV rental in Lumberton is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Big Thicket and Gulf Coast. On RVezy, motorhomes near Lumberton average around $200 per night, while towable travel trailers and fifth wheels typically run closer to $120 per night. Most hosts offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, so a 7-night Lumberton RV trip can come in well under the cost of hotels plus a rental car. To find a cheap RV rental in Lumberton, filter by price, book mid-week, and target shoulder months like March or October when nightly rates dip. Pro tip: travel trailers paired with host delivery to Village Creek State Park give you the best value per night.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/village-creekDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Lumberton, TX?
Great news: a regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent the vast majority of RVs in Lumberton, TX. Texas only requires a non-commercial Class A or Class B license for personal RVs with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, which covers only the largest Class A motorhomes. Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and most fifth wheels on RVezy fall well under that limit. You'll need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from another country? An International Driving Permit paired with your home license keeps you road-ready on your Lumberton RV trip.
dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/classes-driver-licensesIs my Lumberton RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Lumberton comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Piney Woods with peace of mind. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your comfort (not the host), which means you stay in control of your coverage. The plan provides significant financial protection for damage to the RV during your trip, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your Lumberton RV rental. Whether you're parked at Village Creek State Park or rolling down US-69 toward the coast, you're backed by a clear, transparent protection package built specifically for RV rentals.

Booking an RV rental in Lumberton, TX is low-risk thanks to RVezy's cancellation policy. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation terms, which include a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. The exact refund depends on how far out from your trip you cancel, and southeast Texas does occasionally see tropical storms or hurricanes during Atlantic hurricane season. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook with travel credits. Pro tip: review the full cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm, so you know exactly what to expect.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Lumberton?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Lumberton is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter while searching, and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their RVs. Many local hosts know the area is built for four-legged adventures: leashed pets are welcome on the trails and campsites at Village Creek State Park, and the 8-mile trail system through cypress swamps and pine forest is a tail-wagger's dream. Pack a long lead, bug spray (the mosquitoes mean business in the Big Thicket), and a collapsible water bowl. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you have a large breed or multiple pets so they can confirm and share their pet policy.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/village-creek/park_info/rulesCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Lumberton?
Yes, RV delivery in Lumberton is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV directly at Village Creek State Park, the Steinhagen Lake area, or your driveway, then walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see which hosts offer it, and message them for a delivery quote (fees are based on distance and RV size). For first-timers nervous about towing or maneuvering, delivery is a game-changer: the host handles the driving, you handle the s'mores. Many hosts also offer setup add-ons like camp chairs, outdoor mats, and bedding.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037947634-How-RV-delivery-worksHow far can I drive on a Lumberton RV trip, and what about mileage?

If you'd rather skip the driving altogether, choose a host who delivers and sets up at Village Creek State Park. Drive west 90 miles on I-10 to Houston for Space Center Texas and world-class food, or push another 200 miles to Austin's Hill Country. East-bound, New Orleans is roughly 270 miles down I-10 with stops at Lake Charles casinos along the way. For nature lovers, the Big Thicket National Preserve sits right at Lumberton's doorstep. nps.gov/bith/index.htmWhat should I budget for fuel on a Lumberton RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier line items to plan for in Texas, which consistently has some of the lowest gas prices in the country. Expect a Class C motorhome to get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, a Class B campervan 15 to 20 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer 9 to 14 mpg. For a typical 500-mile loop from Lumberton (think Galveston, Houston, and back), budget roughly $150 to $250 in fuel depending on rig size. Diesel and gas stations are plentiful along US-69, US-96, and I-10. Pro tip: download the GasBuddy app and fill up at Buc-ee's in Beaumont, where prices are competitive and the restrooms are legendary on any Texas RV trip.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lumberton?
For the best campgrounds near Lumberton, especially Village Creek State Park, plan to reserve as early as you can. Texas Parks and Wildlife opens reservations up to five months in advance through their official booking system, and spring and fall weekends fill quickly. Martin Dies, Jr. State Park follows the same 5-month window and is worth booking early for lakeside sites. Private parks like Gulf Coast RV Resort and East Lucas RV Park in Beaumont typically take reservations 6 to 12 months out and have more flexibility for last-minute trips. Pro tip: if Village Creek is booked, set a calendar reminder to check the Texas State Parks site daily, since cancellations open up often within a week of arrival.
texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Lumberton, TX?
Driving an RV in and around Lumberton is refreshingly straightforward. The town sits along flat, wide US-69 and US-96 with easy access to I-10, all of which handle big rigs comfortably. Watch for occasional heavy thunderstorms in summer that can drop visibility fast, and stay weather-aware during Atlantic hurricane season (June through November) when tropical systems can push inland from the Gulf. Logging trucks share the rural highways through the Piney Woods, so leave extra following distance. Inside Houston or New Orleans on a longer trip, plan to avoid downtown rush hour and stick to outer loops like I-610 or I-610 alternatives. Pro tip: download an RV-specific GPS app to avoid low bridges on the older state highways east of Beaumont.

Village Creek State Park offers 30-amp water-and-electric sites, restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, and potable water fill stations, though no sewer hookups at the site. Private parks in Beaumont, like Gulf Coast RV Resort and East Lucas RV Park, typically offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. Most accept big rigs with pull-through sites. For dumping and freshwater fills between stops, RVDumpSites.net lists multiple options along US-69. RVs on RVezy in Lumberton come ready for adventure. Expect comfortable sleeping for 4 to 8 people, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (a must for Texas summers), and seatbelts for everyone riding. Most rigs also include a TV, some level of Wi-Fi or cell signal booster, propane for cooking and heat, and a generator or shore power for off-grid running. Heated water tanks and air conditioning are standard in most southeast Texas listings, since AC is essential here from May through September. Pro tip: read each listing's amenities list carefully and message your host about specifics like high-chair compatibility or outdoor speaker availability for a family RV trip in Lumberton.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Lumberton?
Hosts on RVezy make it easy to customize your campervan rental Lumberton experience. Popular add-ons include bedding and linen packs, kitchen kits with pots and utensils, camp chairs and outdoor mats, bike racks, propane refills, and generator hours for boondocking. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Lumberton, Beaumont, or Silsbee, with a 30-to-60-minute orientation walkthrough included. Many hosts also offer delivery directly to Village Creek State Park or other campgrounds for a fee based on distance. Mileage policies are set per listing, so check there first. Pro tip: ask your host about a generator-included package if you plan to camp at Village Creek's water-and-electric loops, where amperage can be limited.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/village-creek/fees-facilities/campsitesHow do payment and the security deposit work for a Lumberton RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure through the RVezy platform: you pay online with a credit card when you book, and your funds are held safely until your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is also placed on your card before the trip (amounts vary by host and RV value) and is released after your safe return, assuming no damage or extra cleaning. Never pay a host directly outside of RVezy, since that voids your protection package. Take time-stamped photos of the RV at pickup and dropoff and review the host's fuel and dump-tank policies. Pro tip: use a credit card with travel benefits to maximize rewards on your rent an RV in Lumberton experience.
