Campgrounds and RV parks near Olmito, TX

Olmito sits in the Lower Rio Grande Valley just north of Brownsville in Cameron County, Texas, roughly 20 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico and South Padre Island. The unincorporated community is surrounded by full-hookup RV parks that cater to both short-stay travelers and long-term Winter Texans, the seasonal residents who drive south from northern states and Canada each winter. Most campgrounds within a short drive of Olmito are private RV resorts rather than public campgrounds. Options close to town include Palmdale RV Resort, River Bend Resort and Golf Club, Holiday Out RV Park, Honeydale Mobile Home and RV Park, and Winter Haven Resort. These parks typically offer paved or gravel pads, full hookups, laundry, pools, and clubhouse activities aimed at the 55-plus market, though most also accept families and shorter stays outside peak winter months. Public land camping is limited in the immediate area. The nearest state park, Resaca de la Palma, is a day-use World Birding Center site and does not offer overnight RV camping, so travelers rely on the private resorts around Brownsville, Los Fresnos, and Harlingen.

Private RV resorts around Olmito handle their own reservations directly by phone, email, or website. Long-term winter sites at parks such as Palmdale RV Resort, River Bend Resort and Golf Club, Holiday Out RV Park, and Winter Haven Resort are commonly reserved months in advance, and many returning guests rebook the same site before leaving in spring. For a first winter stay, contacting parks in late summer or early fall is a safer strategy than waiting. Outside winter peak, short overnight and weekly stays are usually easier to secure on shorter notice. Texas State Parks, including day-use sites like Resaca de la Palma, are reserved through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, and day-use reservations are recommended when the park is expected to reach capacity.
