Campgrounds and RV parks near Pharr, TX

Pharr sits in the Rio Grande Valley in deep South Texas, roughly ten miles from the Mexican border and about sixty miles from the Gulf coast. The city is part of the McAllen metropolitan area and functions as one of the main hubs for the seasonal snowbird population known as Winter Texans, who arrive by RV each fall and stay through spring. RV parks in and immediately around Pharr are built for this pattern. Tropic Star RV Resort, Tip O' Texas RV Resort, and Texas Trails RV Resort are large 55+ resort-style properties with paved sites, ballrooms, pools, and organized activity calendars. McAllen Mobile Park and Alamo Palms RV Resort round out the closest options and offer additional full-hookup capacity for both seasonal and shorter stays. Most parks in the area cater primarily to long-stay guests booking by the month or the season, but short-term nightly and weekly sites are available at several properties for travelers passing through or basing themselves near Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park and the World Birding Center.

For winter stays, book early. Seasonal reservations at the larger Pharr resorts often open a full year ahead, and returning guests typically hold the best sites, so contacting parks in spring or summer for the following winter is standard practice. Tropic Star RV Resort, Tip O' Texas RV Resort, Texas Trails RV Resort, and Alamo Palms RV Resort all take reservations directly by phone or through their websites. Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park no longer allows RV camping inside the park boundaries since becoming the World Birding Center headquarters in 2004; only primitive walk-in sites remain, and campsite reservations can be made online through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's reservation system. RV travelers use nearby private parks as a base and reserve state park entry in advance during peak birding months.
