Campgrounds and RV parks near Plum Grove, TX

Lake Houston Wilderness Park is the anchor outdoor destination. Visitors can hike more than 20 miles of trails, paddle Peach Creek and Lake Dabney, fish, and ride 13 miles of equestrian loops. The park also runs ranger programs and includes a nature center near Peach Creek. Big Rivers Waterpark and Gator Bayou Adventure Park sit just south in New Caney, which makes the area a practical base for a family trip. Big-box shopping, chain restaurants, and grocery resupply cluster around the US 59 and Grand Parkway interchange. Day trips extend to Lake Livingston to the north for boating, Sam Houston National Forest for longer hikes, and downtown Houston for museums, Space Center Houston, and professional sports. Kingwood, about 20 minutes south, offers additional greenbelt trails and dining.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of southeast Texas. From March through May and again from late September through November, daytime highs are comfortable, humidity eases, and biting insects are less aggressive. Mild evenings and wildflower blooms make these the busiest booking seasons at private parks in the corridor. Summer brings hot, humid weather with afternoon thunderstorms that are common along the upper Texas coast from June through August. Sites remain open and air-conditioned rigs are the norm, but outdoor activity typically shifts to mornings and evenings. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak tropical activity in August and September; travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm evacuation plans with their campground host. Winters are short and mild, with occasional cold fronts and rain. Hard freezes occur but are usually brief. Most private RV parks stay open year-round, and long-term monthly rates are common from roughly November through February.

Expect a rural, wooded setting with sandy soils, tall pines, and hardwood bottoms. Cell service is generally reliable on major carriers along the US 59 and FM corridors, though it can weaken deeper inside Lake Houston Wilderness Park. Most private parks in the area offer 30 and 50 amp service, water, sewer, and Wi-Fi of variable speed. Wildlife is a real consideration. Alligators inhabit local creeks and ponds, several species of snakes are present in warm months, and mosquitoes and ticks are active from spring through fall. Bring repellent, keep pets leashed, and store food and trash securely. Roads into the campgrounds are mostly paved county and farm-to-market routes, but final approaches can be narrow. Drivers with tall or long rigs should verify low-clearance and turning radius information with the park before arrival.
