Campgrounds and RV parks near Sebastian, TX

Sebastian is a small census-designated place in Willacy County on the southern edge of Texas, roughly nine miles south of Raymondville and about thirty miles north of the Mexican border. The community sits in the Rio Grande Valley, the flat, subtropical band of South Texas that stretches from South Padre Island west to Zapata and includes Harlingen, McAllen, and Brownsville. RV travelers use Sebastian as a quiet base for exploring the Valley without staying in one of the larger cities. Nearby campgrounds include Gateway RV and Mobile Home Park, Sunshine RV Resort, Paradise Park RV Resort, The Fig Tree RV Resort, and Lakewood RV Resort. Most Valley parks cater heavily to Winter Texans, retirees who drive down from the northern United States and Canada each fall, so many properties are age-restricted 55-plus, offer long-stay monthly rates, and lean toward paved sites with full hookups rather than tent camping. The surrounding landscape is farmland, brushland, and coastal prairie, with the Laguna Madre and Gulf of Mexico about an hour east.

Most RV parks around Sebastian are privately owned and booked directly with the property by phone or through the park's own website. Winter Texan resorts commonly distinguish between in-season rates (roughly October through March) and off-season rates (April through September), and many require first and last month's rent plus a security deposit for stays of several months. For federal and state lands, reservations follow different systems. Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge uses recreation.gov for entrance fees and passes, and the refuge itself is not open for camping. Texas state parks such as Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley are reserved through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system. For peak winter months, booking eight to twelve weeks ahead is realistic; monthly and seasonal snowbird sites often need to be locked in the previous spring or summer.
