Campgrounds and RV parks near Seymour, TX

The Brazos River corridor and small reservoirs in the area draw anglers and paddlers. Lake Arrowhead State Park offers boat ramps, fishing, and swimming on a 524-acre lakeside property managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Northwest of Seymour, Copper Breaks State Park offers a mix of outdoor activities in a compact footprint. The park has over 10 miles of trails open to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, plus two small lakes where no fishing license is required inside the park. As an International Dark Sky Park, it hosts monthly star parties from April through November. Members of the Official State of Texas Longhorn Herd live in the park; look for them in the south pasture near the park entrance.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in the Seymour area. Mid-March through mid-May and mid-October through mid-November tend to offer the mildest temperatures. Wildflowers appear along the plains in April and May, and moderate daytime temperatures make hiking and lake activities practical. Summers are hot. July is typically the hottest month, with average highs in the mid-90s Fahrenheit and lows in the low 70s. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in late spring and early summer, and May is generally the wettest month. Rigs should carry ample fresh water, and shaded sites at state park campgrounds fill quickly. Winters are cool but generally mild, with average highs in the mid-50s Fahrenheit and lows in the upper 30s. Overnight freezes still occur regularly from December through February, so winterize water lines and plan for cold-weather hookup use. Snowfall is light and infrequent, averaging only a few days per year.

Seymour is a small town with limited big-box retail, so stock up on groceries, propane, and RV supplies in Wichita Falls or Vernon before arrival if traveling with a full family. Fuel stations along US 277 and US 82 accommodate larger rigs, but overnight parking is not a substitute for a reserved site. Cell coverage across the rolling plains can be uneven, particularly at Copper Breaks and along back roads between reservoirs. Download offline maps before leaving pavement. Burn bans are periodically in effect across Baylor and neighboring counties, restricting wood and charcoal fires; containerized fuel stoves generally remain allowed. Wildlife is common, including deer, roadrunners, and rattlesnakes in warmer months. Keep pets leashed at state parks and inspect sites before setting out chairs or awnings.
