Overview of campgrounds near Siesta Shores
Siesta Shores is a small community in Zapata County, Texas, sitting on the eastern shore of Falcon International Reservoir in South Texas, roughly 40 miles southeast of Laredo. The area lies in the Central time zone along the Rio Grande, close to the Mexico border. RV travelers use it as a base for freshwater fishing, birding, and winter-Texan stays.
Camping options cluster around the lake and nearby state parks. Oso Blanco Motel and RV Park, Lakefront Lodge, and Amigo Inn and RV Park serve travelers looking for full-hookup sites close to town and the water. For a public-lands stay, Falcon State Park offers pull-through campsites, half with water and electricity and half with full hookups, plus non-reservable water-only sites and screened shelters or cabins.
Farther north, Lake Casa Blanca International State Park provides a lakeside camping experience along a 1,680-acre reservoir just minutes from the Mexican border in Laredo, and features 66 campsites, all equipped with water and electricity, with full-hookup sites available in Areas J and N. The mix of private RV parks and state park sites gives renters flexibility between hookups and lakefront access.
Things to do near Siesta Shores
Fishing drives most trips here. The Falcon International Reservoir was formed in 1953 when the United States and Mexico built a dam on the Rio Grande just north of Roma, Texas, creating a 28-mile-long, 84,000-acre lake, which draws bass anglers year-round. Boat ramps, a fishing pier, and shoreline access make gear-heavy trips practical.
Birding is a second major draw at Falcon State Park. The park is a great location for bird watchers, with plenty of local species to observe, especially during migration seasons, and wildlife in the area includes white-tailed deer, javelinas, and various small mammals and reptiles. Trails and a recreation hall round out the on-site options.
At Lake Casa Blanca International State Park, families get a broader recreation menu: hiking and mountain biking trails through varied landscapes, plus a swim area, playgrounds, and sports courts for baseball, tennis, volleyball, and basketball. Laredo museums and a planetarium are a short drive from that park.

What to expect near Siesta Shores
Sites at the state parks are open and sunny. Most sites sit in open terrain with limited natural screening between neighbors, and each campsite includes a covered picnic pavilion, providing shade during hot days. Plan for full sun on the RV and awning use during afternoons.
Expect wind off the reservoir, which can affect awnings, slide toppers, and satellite setups. RV pads receive regular maintenance and accommodate various rig sizes, though some sites may require leveling adjustments. Rigs of most lengths fit at Falcon State Park's pull-through loops.
Gates and check-in follow set hours. The park is open seven days a week year-round, daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. If arriving after the gate closes at 10 p.m., visitors will not be allowed to enter until the gate opens at 6 a.m. the next day unless they have called the park office by 5 p.m. Cell service can be spotty near the lake, so download maps before arriving.
