Campgrounds and RV parks near Coeburn, VA

Coeburn sits in Wise County in far southwestern Virginia, on the Guest River in the heart of the Appalachian coalfields. The town is a practical base for RV travelers exploring the Jefferson National Forest, the Clinch River corridor, and the region's off-highway vehicle trails. Most campgrounds in the area combine forested sites with full or partial hookups suited to trailers and motorhomes. Close-in options include Camp Mountventures near St. Paul, positioned at the Spearhead Trails Mountain View trailhead with hookup and primitive sites, and Jessie Lea RV Park and Campground in Big Stone Gap, a family-run park along the Powell River with 39 full-hookup sites offering 30 and 50 amp service and pull-through access. Within an hour's drive, two public parks anchor the region. Natural Tunnel State Park near Duffield offers electric-and-water RV sites in two loops, Cove View and Lover's Leap, with Lover's Leap accommodating rigs up to 50 feet. Breaks Interstate Park, spanning the Virginia-Kentucky line, has 138 campsites divided among Campgrounds A through D, including full-hookup sites. Holston Hideaway, southwest across the Tennessee line, provides a smaller full-hookup option along the Holston River.

Virginia State Parks, including Natural Tunnel, accept reservations up to 11 months in advance through the central system at 1-800-933-PARK or the state parks website. Cove View has 16 electric-and-water sites suitable for tents, RVs, and pop-ups up to 38 feet, while Lover's Leap fits back-in RVs up to 50 feet. Primitive tent sites are booked separately by calling the park office. Breaks Interstate Park uses its own reservation system on the park's website because it is jointly operated by Virginia and Kentucky. Reservations open up to 11 months in advance. Larger RVs should call the campground store before booking, since the campground was built before big rigs and only a limited number of sites accommodate them. Private parks including Camp Mountventures, Jessie Lea RV Park and Campground, and Holston Hideaway take reservations directly by phone or through their listed booking platforms. Weekends fill fastest, so book early for holidays and race weekends.
