Campgrounds near Collinsville
Collinsville sits in Henry County in Virginia's Blue Ridge foothills, minutes from Martinsville and within an easy drive of Philpott Lake and Fairy Stone State Park. RV travelers use it as a base for lake camping, river paddling on the Smith River, and day trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The nearest full-service RV option is Smith River RV Park in Bassett, which offers full-hookup sites with water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric along the riverbank. Indian Heritage RV Park is another private option in the immediate area, while Goose Dam Campground and the Equestrian campground at Fairy Stone State Park provide public-land alternatives close to Philpott Reservoir.
For riders and race weekends, Lake Sugar Tree in nearby Axton adds motocross-oriented camping with RV hookups. Together these sites cover riverside, lakeside, forested, and event-based stays, so most trip styles have a workable option within about a 30-minute drive of Collinsville.
Things to do near Collinsville
Water is the main draw. Philpott Lake covers 2,900 acres and has 100 miles of shoreline, supporting boating, swimming, and fishing. Anglers target large and smallmouth bass, walleye, bluegill, crappie and catfish. The Smith River below Philpott Dam is a stocked trout tailwater, and local outfitters run kayak and tube shuttles.
On land, Fairy Stone State Park offers hiking, cycling, and horseback riding on its multi-use trail system. Families hunt for the park's namesake fairy stones, swim at the lake beach, and rent boats in season. The Blue Ridge Parkway is approximately 30 minutes away for scenic overlooks and short hikes.
For motorsports fans, Lake Sugar Tree Motorsports Park in Axton runs practice days and race weekends on its motocross tracks.

The camping season here runs roughly early March through early December. The Electric/Water Campground at Fairy Stone State Park is open from early March through early December, and Goose Point and Jamison Mill on Philpott Lake are open April 1 through October 31.
Summer is peak: warm lake temperatures, full concessions, and boat rentals draw families and fill lakefront sites well in advance. Spring and fall bring cooler nights, lighter crowds, and strong fishing, though thunderstorms are common in late spring and summer. Fall foliage on the Blue Ridge typically peaks in mid to late October.
Winter access is limited. During non-peak season from November through March, the Goose Point campground and bathhouses are closed, though the boat ramp stays open with a vault toilet and no drinking water. Private parks like Smith River RV Park operate year-round, and Fairy Stone's camping lodge is available from the first Friday in March through the first Sunday in December, with cabins reservable in shoulder months.

How to book near Collinsville
Public campgrounds in the area use two separate systems. Virginia State Parks sites, including those at Fairy Stone, are reserved through reservevaparks.com or by phone at 1-800-933-PARK. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance, and since Fairy Stone is popular, booking well ahead is advised.
Goose Point and other U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites on Philpott Lake are reservable through Recreation.gov, and popular lakefront sites fill quickly. Half of the RV and tent sites at Fairy Stone are held as first-come, first-served, so non-powered sites are often available without a reservation.
Private parks such as Smith River RV Park and Lake Sugar Tree take direct bookings through their own websites or by phone.
What to expect at Collinsville campgrounds
Terrain around Collinsville is hilly and wooded. Access road and park roads at Goose Point are hilly, winding and narrow and may be difficult for larger RVs to navigate, so drivers of longer rigs should plan the route in daylight and check site length limits before booking.
Hookups vary by property. Smith River RV Park offers full hookups with 30/50-amp service, while Fairy Stone's Electric/Water Campground has graveled pull-through sites for units up to 50 feet with 20, 30, and 50-amp electric and water, unshaded sites without individual fire rings or picnic tables, and pit toilets with a dump station on-site. Goose Point offers 63 campsites, 53 with electric and water hookups, plus flush toilets, showers, drinking water, and a dump station.
Park gates at Goose Point are closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and alcohol is prohibited, which is standard for Corps of Engineers lakes.

dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/fairy-stoneWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Collinsville?
Spring and fall are the sweet spot. From April through early June, dogwoods and rhododendrons bloom across Henry County and daytime highs typically sit in the 65 to 80 degree range. September through early November delivers crisp air and Blue Ridge foliage with highs in the 60s and 70s. Summer brings warm mid-80s July highs that are great for swimming at Fairy Stone Lake or paddling Philpott Reservoir. Winters are mild but overnight lows can dip into the 20s. Time your visit around a Martinsville Speedway NASCAR race weekend in spring or fall for an electric atmosphere, and book your rent an RV in Collinsville plans extra early for those dates.
weather.gov/rnk/I've never rented an RV before. Is Collinsville beginner-friendly?
Yes, and you're in great hands. First time renting an RV in Collinsville is genuinely easy because RVezy hosts provide a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering the generator, hookups, slide-outs, holding tanks, and dashboard before you drive off. The area's gently rolling Piedmont terrain and quiet two-lane roads like Route 57 toward Fairy Stone are friendly for learning the size of your rig. You can also book a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental Collinsville hosts offer to ease into things. Choose a host with the Delivery option so your first day is spent enjoying the campfire, not figuring out how to back into a site.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Collinsville%2C%20VirginiaWhat happens if I have a breakdown or roadside issue?
You're never alone out there. Every motorhome rental Collinsville guests book through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan. Your host is also a quick message away for questions about the specific quirks of their RV. Keep your booking confirmation handy and save the RVezy support contact in your phone before pickup so you can focus on the trip ahead.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip routes from Collinsville?
You're well positioned for an epic RV road trip from Collinsville. Favorite routes include heading about 40 miles west to the Blue Ridge Parkway for the Mabry Mill and Rocky Knob area, traveling around 55 miles north to Smith Mountain Lake for a week of boating, or pointing the rig roughly 90 miles up to Natural Bridge and Lexington for history and hiking. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Collinsville%2C%20VirginiaHow should I budget for fuel on my Collinsville RV trip?
Easier than you think to estimate. Class C motorhomes around Collinsville typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A rigs come in around 6 to 10 mpg, and campervans or travel trailers pulled by a half-ton truck average 12 to 18 mpg. Virginia gas prices generally track close to the national average, and Collinsville has plenty of stations along Virginia Avenue and Route 220 that can accommodate larger rigs. For a four-night loop covering 400 miles, plan on roughly $150 to $250 in fuel for a typical Class C. Fill up before leaving the Martinsville area because prices often climb once you head into the Blue Ridge foothills.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book a campground near Collinsville?
Sooner is better, but you have options. Fairy Stone State Park accepts reservations up to 11 months ahead through the Virginia State Parks system, and summer weekends plus October foliage dates fill quickly. Philpott Lake's Corps of Engineers campgrounds book through Recreation.gov, typically up to six months out. Smaller private parks in Collinsville often take shorter-notice reservations by phone. For Martinsville Speedway race weekends in spring and fall, book the moment dates are released. Some non-electric sites at Fairy Stone are first-come, first-served during the regular season, so if you strike out on reservations, arriving early on a Thursday gives you a real shot at a walk-up site.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2991What are local driving conditions like around Collinsville?
Friendly for RVs once you know the lay of the land. Collinsville sits in the gentle Piedmont foothills, so roads like Route 220, US 58, and Virginia Avenue are wide, well-maintained, and easy to navigate even in a 30-foot Class C. As you head west toward Fairy Stone State Park on Route 57 or up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, expect winding two-lane mountain roads with grades and switchbacks: drive slowly, downshift on descents, and use the pull-outs. Check Parkway tunnel clearances before bringing taller rigs onto that route. Summer afternoon thunderstorms roll through Henry County quickly, so plan driving for the morning when winds are calmest.
nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/driving-tips.htmWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds around Collinsville?
Most local campgrounds make hookup life easy. Fairy Stone State Park offers water and electric sites with a centrally located dump station, bathhouses with hot showers, and a swim beach. Private RV parks in the Collinsville area typically provide 30 and 50 amp full hookups. Philpott Lake campgrounds like Goose Point and Salthouse Branch offer electric sites, dump stations, and lake access but no sewer at the site. Bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a surge protector because older parks in the region have varied spigot placements and occasional voltage swings.

Class A and Class C rigs sleep four to eight, while a campervan rental Collinsville hosts list is perfect for couples. Most listings include a daily mileage allowance with an extra-mile fee for longer routes, and some hosts offer unlimited mileage packages for week-long trips. Pickup is typically at the host's home in the Martinsville-Henry County area, and Instant Book listings let you confirm a trip with no back-and-forth. If you're headed to a Martinsville Speedway race, ask the host about arrival-day delivery so the RV is set up before you even arrive.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Collinsville%2C%20VirginiaHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in Collinsville, VA through RVezy, payment is processed through the platform, never in cash to the host. Your card is charged according to the booking schedule shown at checkout, and a refundable security deposit is handled separately from the booking payment as an authorization hold close to your trip start date. Assuming the RV comes back in the condition it left, the hold is released after your trip. To avoid issues, do a thorough walk-around with the host at pickup and dropoff, take photos of the interior and exterior, and keep communication inside the RVezy app for a clean record.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a Collinsville RV rental good for a family trip?
It's one of the best family RV trip Collinsville options in southern Virginia. Kids love hunting for the legendary fairy stones at Fairy Stone State Park, swimming at the 168-acre lake beach, and exploring the hands-on exhibits at the Virginia Museum of Natural History a short drive away in Martinsville. The Dick and Willie Passage Rail Trail is a flat, paved route perfect for family bike rides, and Philpott Lake's beaches are ideal for splashy summer afternoons. Look for RVs that sleep six or more with bunks, and filter by Pet-Friendly if the family dog is coming. Pack a small bucket and screwdriver to dig for fairy stones, a Henry County tradition the kids will never forget.
