Campgrounds and RV parks near Courtland, VA

Courtland sits in Southampton County in southeastern Virginia, roughly halfway between I-95 and the Hampton Roads coast. The surrounding coastal plain is flat, wooded, and cut by the Nottoway and Blackwater rivers, which shapes the mix of nearby campgrounds: private RV parks with full hookups, family-run lakeside grounds, and a large state park just across the North Carolina line. Closer to town, Isle of Wight Campground in nearby Windsor offers RV sites, primitive tenting, and a stocked fishing lake within easy driving distance of Courtland. West along the I-95 corridor, Emporia Campground / I-95 and the Emporia/I-95 KOA give travelers reliable interstate stops with pull-throughs sized for larger rigs. For a more natural setting, Merchants Millpond State Park sits south of the state line in Gates County, North Carolina, centered on a millpond more than 200 years old surrounded by cypress-tupelo swamp. Davis Lakes and Campgrounds in Suffolk rounds out the area with on-site lakes and cabin options for renters who want water access without heading to the coast.

Private campgrounds in the area, including Isle of Wight Campground, Emporia Campground / I-95, the Emporia/I-95 KOA, and Davis Lakes and Campgrounds, take reservations directly through their own sites or through platforms like KOA.com, Campspot, and Hipcamp. Full-hookup and pull-through sites for larger rigs go first, especially on summer weekends. Merchants Millpond State Park is reserved through the North Carolina State Parks reservation system, with a booking window that opens up to six months ahead. Note that the family campground has been closed for construction, so confirm current status with the park before planning a trip. Virginia state park sites elsewhere in the region use the ReserveVAParks portal and open reservations up to 11 months in advance, with same-day camping bookings accepted until 2 p.m. For holiday weekends and fall foliage dates, book as early as the window allows.
