Campgrounds near Daleville, Virginia
Daleville sits in Botetourt County at the northern edge of the Roanoke Valley, positioned between Interstate 81 and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Appalachian Trail crosses just east of town near Tinker Cliffs, and the James River, Jefferson National Forest, and the Peaks of Otter area are all within a short drive. That geography puts a mix of private RV parks, a church-run riverside campground, an adventure camp, and a National Park Service campground within an hour of town.
Closest to Daleville, Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing occupies a large property along Craig Creek in New Castle, with dry RV sites, tent spots, and cabins. Limestone Park in Buchanan offers riverside sites with electric and water on the James River, and Middle Creek Campground, also near Buchanan, provides full-hookup RV sites along Jennings Creek at the foot of Fork Mountain.
Heading south on I-81, Dixie Caverns Campground in Salem offers full-hookup RV sites right off the interstate at the mouth of the caverns. East on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Peaks of Otter Campground sits near Milepost 86 between Sharp Top and Flat Top mountains, giving RV travelers a federal, no-hookup option in a forested mountain setting.
Things to do around Daleville
Hiking is the headline activity. Tinker Cliffs, McAfee Knob, and Dragon's Tooth, three of the most photographed points on the Appalachian Trail, all sit within a short drive of Daleville, making the I-81 corridor a practical trail base.
Water recreation runs from spring through fall. Visitors can fish, canoe, and tube on the nearby James River, or take scenic drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Craig Creek and Jennings Creek offer wading and float access near the New Castle and Buchanan campgrounds, and Abbott Lake at Peaks of Otter is stocked with smallmouth bass and bluegill.
For families, Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing runs on-property programming including a giant swing, low and high ropes courses, caving, rock climbing, and guided mountain bike trips. Dixie Caverns adds a guided underground cavern tour at the campground itself.

The camping calendar in this part of Virginia is driven by the Blue Ridge Parkway schedule and by private-park seasonal closures. Eight campgrounds are open from May through October along the parkway, and Peaks of Otter typically operates from late May through the end of October. Outside that window the Parkway campgrounds are closed, and Parkway road segments can shut without notice for ice or fallen trees.
Spring and fall are the sweet spots. October foliage draws heavy weekend traffic on the Parkway, and reservable Peaks of Otter sites go fast during leaf season. Summer runs warm and humid in the valley, with afternoon thunderstorms common; higher-elevation sites near Peaks of Otter run several degrees cooler than Daleville itself.
Winter camping is limited but possible at lower-elevation private parks. Dixie Caverns Campground stays open year-round, while Middle Creek Campground runs from mid-March through late November. At Limestone Park, showers and bathrooms are open March 1 to December 1, and water to sites may be shut off during hard freezes.

How to book a site
Peaks of Otter uses the federal system. Reservations can be made for portions of the campground online at recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Reservations open six months in advance and popular weekends sell out quickly. About 60 sites are reservable and roughly 79 sites are first-come, first-served, which gives arrivals a walk-up chance on weekdays.
Private parks near Daleville handle bookings directly or through third-party platforms. Middle Creek Campground, Dixie Caverns Campground, Limestone Park, and Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing take reservations by phone or through their own websites, and several list inventory on aggregator platforms. For fall foliage weekends and summer holidays, book at least four to eight weeks ahead; weekday stays in shoulder season are typically available on shorter notice.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a mix of hookup levels. Dixie Caverns offers full hookup RV sites with water, electricity, and sewer, plus tent spots, and Middle Creek offers water, electric, and sewer hookups for RVs up to 40 feet on a mix of 30 and 50 amp sites. Limestone Park has eleven level sites with electric and water; three sites have 30 amp service and the others have 50 amp. Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing is dry camping only.
Peaks of Otter is rustic by design. The Parkway-operated campground has about 144 sites at the foot of Sharp Top mountain, with picnic tables, lantern poles, fire rings, flush toilets, drinking water, and a dump station, but no showers or hookups. Larger rigs should check site length in advance and expect narrow, terraced loop roads.
Bear country rules apply across the region. Store food and scented items in a hard-sided vehicle or bear box, and buy firewood locally to avoid moving pests.

visitroanokeva.com/region/cities-and-counties/botetourt-county/What kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Daleville?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Daleville, VA. Virginia does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes and trailers listed on RVezy, including Class A, Class C, and fifth wheels. You just need to be 25 or older and verify your ID through the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters in Botetourt County are surprised how quickly the verification step wraps up, often within a few hours, so you can lock in your dates and start planning the fun part.
dmv.virginia.gov/drivers/license-typesIs RV rental insurance and roadside help included on RVezy?
Yes, every RV rental in Daleville booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you drive away. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real peace of mind whether you are climbing the Blue Ridge Parkway or parked at Peaks of Otter. During checkout, you choose from protection tiers with different coverage limits and deductibles to match your trip. If a tire blows on US-220 or the battery dies at a trailhead near the Appalachian Trail, one call to roadside dispatch gets help on the way. Book confidently knowing the safety net is built in.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I need to cancel my Daleville RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy at the platform level, not individual hosts, and there is a grace period right after booking so you have breathing room to confirm plans. Refund amounts after that window depend on how far out from your trip you cancel and the circumstances. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credit so your plans stay on track. If anything comes up, contact RVezy support directly and they will walk you through your options. That kind of safety net makes it easy to lock in your Daleville dates today.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Daleville?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental Daleville hosts are happy to provide is just one filter click away on RVezy. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see only listings where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome. Botetourt County is a dream for dog owners: Carvins Cove Natural Reserve has miles of leashed-pet trails, the Cherry Blossom Trail in Daleville is paved and ADA-accessible for easy strolls, and most sections of the Appalachian Trail near town allow leashed dogs. Pack a tie-out, collapsible water bowl, and a towel for muddy paws after creek crossings. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed or size notes so check-in is smooth.
botetourtva.gov/621/TrailsCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Daleville?
Yes, RV delivery in Daleville is available from many local hosts and is the easiest way to skip the learning curve. Filter for Delivery on RVezy to find owners who will tow or drive the motorhome to your campground, set up the awning, level the rig, connect water and power, and walk you through every system. Popular drop-off spots include Peaks of Otter Campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Middle Creek Campground in Buchanan, and Dixie Caverns Campground near Salem. Delivery fees are typically based on round-trip mileage from the host, so a closer host saves you money. For first-time renters, this turns a motorhome rental in Daleville into a true vacation: show up, unpack, and start the campfire.
nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/peaksofotter.htmHow far can I drive on an RV rental, and are there mileage limits?
You've got plenty of room to roam. Each host sets their own mileage policy, and many Daleville-area owners offer generous daily allowances of 100 to 150 miles, with some advertising RV rental with unlimited mileage for road-trip travelers. From Daleville, popular drives stay well within typical limits: Peaks of Otter is about 25 miles, Natural Bridge State Park is about 30 miles, Roanoke is 15 miles, Smith Mountain Lake is around 40 miles, and Shenandoah National Park's southern entrance at Rockfish Gap is about 75 miles. If you're planning a bigger loop to New River Gorge in West Virginia (about 130 miles), filter for unlimited mileage or message hosts to pre-purchase extra miles at a discounted rate before your trip.
nps.gov/neri/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Daleville, VA?
You're spoiled for choice: the best campgrounds near Daleville sit within an hour's drive and cover everything from full hookups to forest seclusion. Peaks of Otter Campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway (about 25 miles east) is a classic with lake views and ranger programs. Middle Creek Campground in Buchanan offers full hookups and a creekside setting. Dixie Caverns Campground near Salem pairs camping with on-site cave tours. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park near Natural Bridge is a family favorite with pools and activities. For a quieter, more rustic vibe, North Creek Campground in the Jefferson National Forest is hard to beat. Book Peaks of Otter early through Recreation.gov; weekends fill up by late spring.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234077When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Daleville?
Late April through early November is prime time for RV camping Daleville visitors rave about, with two especially magical windows. Spring (mid-April to mid-June) brings highs in the 60s to upper 70s, dogwoods in bloom, and quiet trails. Fall (late September through late October) is when the Blue Ridge Mountains explode in color and daytime temps cool to the comfortable 60s and 70s, perfect campfire weather. Summer is warm (highs around 86°F) and great for swimming at Smith Mountain Lake. Winters dip to averages around 21°F at night with about 14 inches of annual snow, so cold-weather trips are doable in a four-season rig. Insider tip: book a fall foliage week by July; leaf-peepers snap up the best sites fast.
weather.gov/rnk/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, and you won't be doing it alone. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, leveling, hookups, the generator, slide-outs, and how to dump tanks. First time renting an RV travelers in Daleville often start with a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan, both of which drive much like a large van. If you're nervous about narrow mountain roads on the Blue Ridge Parkway (35 mph speed limit, gentle curves), choose delivery so the host handles transit. Practice in the parking lot before heading out, take it slow on US-220, and remember: you can message your host any time during the trip with a question. Confidence builds within the first hour behind the wheel.
nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/driving-tips.htmWhat if something breaks down during my trip?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every RVezy rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, so a flat tire on I-81, a dead battery at Peaks of Otter, or a tow on US-460 is one phone call away. Roadside dispatch can arrange tire service, jump-starts, lockout help, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified shop. For questions about how something works (the water pump, the awning, the propane), message your host directly through the RVezy app; most owners reply quickly because they know their RV inside and out. RVezy support is also available throughout your trip. Save both contacts in your phone before you pull out of the driveway and enjoy the adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips I can take from Daleville?
Daleville is a launching pad for some of the East Coast's best drives. A classic RV road trip from Daleville is the Blue Ridge Parkway itself: head south toward Asheville, NC (about 250 miles of overlooks, waterfalls, and Mount Mitchell), or north to Shenandoah National Park's Skyline Drive (about 75 miles to Rockfish Gap, then 105 miles of ridgeline). Other favorites include New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia (about 130 miles), Smith Mountain Lake (40 miles for kayaking and swimming), and the Greenbrier resort area (about 100 miles). Travel between the US and Canada may be allowed by some hosts (just ask), but trips into Mexico aren't permitted on RVezy because insurance doesn't extend there. Map your route and book campgrounds first.
nps.gov/blri/index.htmWhat should I budget for fuel on a Daleville RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to estimate. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get about 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A coaches typically deliver 7 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Virginia gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, and you'll find competitive pricing at the Pilot and Sheetz stations right off I-81 Exit 150 in Daleville (very RV-friendly with high canopies and big lanes). For a typical 4-night trip of 250 to 400 miles in a Class C, plan on roughly $120 to $200 in fuel. Insider tip: top off in Daleville before driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, where there are no gas stations on the Parkway itself.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Daleville?
Reserve early and you'll lock in the best spots without stress. For Peaks of Otter Campground and other Blue Ridge Parkway sites, book through Recreation.gov up to 6 months in advance; weekends from June through October and any fall foliage weekend often sell out within hours of release. Virginia State Parks like Douthat (about 35 miles away) take reservations 11 months out through ReserveVAParks and fill quickly for summer holidays. Private parks like Middle Creek Campground and Dixie Caverns are usually easier to grab 2 to 4 weeks ahead. Pro tip: if you struck out on Peaks of Otter, check Recreation.gov 2 weeks before your trip; cancellations free up sites regularly, especially mid-week.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234077What are the local driving conditions like around Daleville?
Driving around Daleville is straightforward, even in a big rig. I-81 runs right past town with wide lanes and gentle grades, and US-220 connects directly into Roanoke. The main thing to know: the Blue Ridge Parkway has a 45 mph speed limit (35 in many sections), low overpasses, and tight curves, so check your RV's height (usually listed on the listing) before heading up. The lowest Parkway tunnels in the area clear around 10'6". Summer thunderstorms can bring brief downpours in the afternoons, and winter (December through February) occasionally brings ice or snow that closes Parkway sections, in which case I-81 stays plowed and open. Drive in daylight your first day to enjoy the scenery and build confidence on the curves.
nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/conditions.htmWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Daleville?
Daleville-area campgrounds cover the full spectrum. Private parks like Middle Creek Campground and Dixie Caverns typically offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer hookups, hot showers, laundry, and WiFi. National Park Service sites like Peaks of Otter have potable water spigots, flush restrooms, and a dump station but no individual hookups, perfect for a more nature-immersed RV camping Daleville experience. Jefferson National Forest sites like North Creek are primitive (pit toilets, no hookups). For dump stations and fresh water on the road, the Pilot Travel Center off I-81 Exit 150 and many Virginia State Parks (including Douthat) offer RV dump services. Pro tip: fill your fresh tank in Daleville before heading up the Parkway, where potable water sources are limited.
nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htmWhat is inside a typical RV rental in Daleville?
Most RVs on RVezy come ready to camp. Expect a queen or king bed, kitchen with fridge/freezer, three-burner propane stove, microwave, sink, and a full bathroom with shower and toilet. Class A and Class C motorhomes listed in Daleville typically include a generator for boondocking, air conditioning, furnace, TV, and seatbelted seating for everyone sleeping aboard (check the seatbelt count on the listing). Many include outdoor amenities like awnings, camp chairs, and outdoor speakers. WiFi varies by host; cellular service is solid in Daleville and along I-81 but spotty deep on the Blue Ridge Parkway, so download offline maps. Read the listing amenities checklist and message the host about must-haves like a coffee maker or specific bed configuration.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Daleville%2C%20VirginiaWhat add-ons can I get with my RV rental, and how does pickup work?
Hosts offer a buffet of add-ons that make life easier: kitchen kits (dishes, pots, utensils), linen and towel packages, generator use, propane refills, bike racks, camping chairs, outdoor grills, and even pre-stocked starter pantries. Fees are listed transparently on each listing. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Daleville, and you'll do a 30 to 60-minute walkthrough covering all systems, with a video recap many hosts send so you can review later. Drop-off mirrors pickup (return with tanks empty if required and fuel topped off). If you'd rather skip the drive entirely, filter for Delivery and the RV comes to your campground. Add-ons are easier to bundle when you message the host before booking.
virginia.org/things-to-do/outdoor-adventures/camping/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, with the rental cost split into a deposit at booking and the balance charged before your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup; it is held, not charged, unless there is damage or a missing item at return, and it is released after a clean drop-off. To avoid holds: do the walkthrough carefully at pickup, photograph the RV inside and out, return it on time with tanks dumped and fuel as agreed, and report any issues during the trip in the RVezy app so they are documented in real time.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Daleville during winter?
Yes, and a winter rent an RV in Daleville trip can be magical, think snow-dusted overlooks and empty trails on the Appalachian Trail. Botetourt County winters are mild by mountain standards, with average lows around 21°F and only about 14 inches of snow per year, so many four-season RVs on RVezy stay available November through March. Filter for RVs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and a working furnace, and message hosts about cold-weather prep like skirting and heated water hoses if you plan to stay at a campground with shore power. Peaks of Otter Campground closes seasonally, but private parks like Middle Creek often stay open. Pro tip: pack extra propane; the furnace runs through it faster than you'd expect on cold nights.
