Campgrounds near Farmville, Virginia
Farmville sits in Virginia's Piedmont region, roughly midway between Richmond and Lynchburg, and serves as a practical base for RV travelers exploring central Virginia's lakes, state forests, and Civil War history. The town is home to Longwood University and anchors the High Bridge Trail State Park, a 31-mile rail-trail popular with cyclists and hikers.
RV travelers have several nearby options. Twin Lakes State Park, a 548-acre park in Virginia's Piedmont region, offers 33 campsites with water and electric hookups plus cabin rentals, set between the 15-acre Goodwin Lake and 36-acre Prince Edward Lake. Holliday Lake State Park sits deep in the Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest, with a 150-acre lake, a guarded swimming beach, and 36 campsites with electric and water hookups. For full hookups, Cozy Acres Campground RV Resort near Powhatan offers roughly 100-plus sites with 20, 30, and 50-amp service, welcomes big rigs, and includes pull-thru and waterfront sites.
Additional area options include The Wilderness at Belmead and Horseshoe Flats Campground, giving families a mix of state-park rustic camping and private-resort amenities within a reasonable drive of Farmville.
Things to do near Farmville
Water recreation anchors most trips. Fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill is popular at Holliday Lake, and swimming at the guarded beach draws steady summer crowds. The park rents kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and paddle boats seasonally. At Twin Lakes State Park, swimming, fishing, canoeing, and hiking are the main draws across two lakes and surrounding hardwood forest.
On land, Twin Lakes offers about six miles of hiking trails through the forest and along the lakes, and Holliday Lake connects to the roughly 10-mile Carter Taylor Multi-use Trail, open to hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders.
For history, Appomattox Court House National Historical Park sits within easy driving distance and marks the site of Gen. Robert E. Lee's surrender to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant in 1865. The High Bridge Trail also runs through town, crossing a restored railroad bridge high above the Appomattox River.

Spring and fall are generally the most comfortable times to camp, with mild days, cool nights, and lower humidity than the summer months. Summer brings warm swimming conditions and peak crowds, along with frequent afternoon thunderstorms typical of central Virginia's humid subtropical climate. Winters are quieter and chillier, with reduced concessions, closed swim beaches, and limited boat rentals at the state parks.
Site availability follows the seasons. The Twin Lakes campground operates on a seasonal schedule, typically from early March through early December, while Holliday Lake and most Virginia State Park campgrounds accept reservations year-round. Cozy Acres Campground RV Resort operates on a seasonal schedule, generally from April through November, so winter travelers should confirm dates before booking. Weekends from Memorial Day through October foliage weekends fill fastest, and holiday weekends often book out months ahead.
For cold-weather trips, cabin rentals at the state parks are a more comfortable choice than RV camping from December through February, when overnight lows regularly drop below freezing.
How to book campgrounds near Farmville
For Virginia State Parks including Twin Lakes and Holliday Lake, reservations are made through the Reserve Virginia State Parks system and can be booked up to 11 months in advance. Same-day reservations are typically accepted until 2 p.m. General park inquiries can be directed to [email protected] or 800-933-PARK (7275).
For shorter midweek stays, sites are often available one to three weeks out, especially in spring and late fall. Private parks such as Cozy Acres Campground RV Resort tend to have more last-minute availability and are booked directly through the operator's site or partner platforms.
When booking, verify RV length limits and hookup type. Twin Lakes provides water and electric only with a dump station on site, while Cozy Acres offers full hookups including sewer. To help protect Virginia's trees, do not move firewood between locations; buy it locally or on site at the campground.
What to expect on arrival
Virginia State Parks use a consistent late-arrival process. A sealed packet with the reservation last name is left at the contact station, visitor center, or park office. The last four digits of the confirmation number serve as the access code, and guests should bring the confirmation letter along.
At Twin Lakes, each site has a water and electric hookup with 20 and 30-amp outlets, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Firewood is sold in the campground, and two vehicles are allowed per site in addition to the camping unit. Reservations include access to a modern bathhouse and dump station, quiet hours begin at 10 p.m., and Wi-Fi is not offered in the campground.
At Cozy Acres, expect a more resort-style experience with level sites, big-rig friendly pull-thrus, a swimming pool, laundry, a camp store, and stocked fishing ponds on the property.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Farmville%2C%20VirginiaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Farmville, Virginia?

The Commonwealth of Virginia does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs, even larger Class A motorhomes. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID directly through the platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) for a smooth handoff. Most first-time renters are surprised how quickly the orientation goes, leaving more time to hit Route 460 toward Appomattox.
dmv.virginia.gov/drivers/Is my RV rental in Farmville protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Farmville booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. During checkout you choose your coverage level, so you can select the peace of mind that fits your trip, whether you are heading to Twin Lakes State Park or driving west toward the Blue Ridge Parkway. The protection plan covers most accidental damage to the RV, so a stray branch on a wooded site at Bear Creek Lake State Park will not derail your trip. It is purpose-built for peer-to-peer RV rentals and backed by RVezy's support team.

Booking is low-risk. RVezy applies a platform-wide cancellation policy so you do not have to compare fine print across listings. If a host cancels, RVezy ensures you receive a refund or travel credit, and the support team helps you find another rig quickly. Refund eligibility depends on how far out your trip is when you cancel, and the policy details are outlined in the RVezy Help Center. Pro tip: book your RV rental in Virginia early to lock in the best rigs for fall foliage week, knowing the cancellation policy is consistent across the platform.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Farmville is easy to find on RVezy. Farmville is a great dog town: the 31-mile High Bridge Trail State Park is leashed-pet-friendly the entire length, including the famous 2,400-foot bridge over the Appomattox River. Twin Lakes State Park and Holliday Lake State Park also allow leashed pets on trails and most campsites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and ask about the closest grassy walking loop at pickup, so your pup stretches out before the drive.
dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/high-bridge-trailCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Farmville?
Yes, RV delivery in Farmville is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV to your campsite at Twin Lakes State Park, Bear Creek Lake State Park, or Holliday Lake State Park, level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through everything before they leave. You just show up with groceries. Use the Delivery filter to see hosts offering this service, then message them for a quote based on distance from Farmville. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you're flying into Richmond International Airport (about an hour east) and don't want to drive a big rig down US-360.
dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/twin-lakesHow far can I drive on a Farmville RV rental?

From Farmville, you're roughly 65 miles east of Richmond, 70 miles west of Lynchburg, 90 miles to Charlottesville and Shenandoah National Park, and about 200 miles to Virginia Beach. Skyline Drive's southern entrance at Rockfish Gap is around a 95-mile drive. Pro tip: check the listing's mileage policy before booking, and if you're planning a true Farmville RV trip loop through the Blue Ridge, message the host upfront so they can quote a flat add-on rate that's often cheaper than per-mile fees.
nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Farmville, VA?

Reserve Virginia state parks through ReserveVAParks for the smoothest booking, especially September through November when fall foliage fills sites fast.
dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/When is the best time to visit Farmville in an RV?
Farmville's sweet spot is mid-April through early June and again from mid-September through early November. Fall delivers crisp 50-70F days, low humidity, and brilliant hardwood color across Cumberland State Forest. Summers in central Virginia are warm and humid, with July highs averaging in the upper 80s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so book a rig with strong AC if you're planning a July or August RV camping Farmville trip. Winters are mild (highs in the 40s-50s) and many parks stay open year-round. Pro tip: avoid Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College move-in and graduation weekends if you want quiet country roads.
weather.gov/akq/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Farmville?
You'll do great, and Farmville is one of the friendlier places in Virginia to learn. First time renting an RV? Your host gives a full walkthrough at pickup, covering generator, slide-outs, tanks, hookups, and driving tips, and they're a phone call away during your trip. Roads around Farmville are mostly flat to gently rolling, with wide two-lane highways like US-460 and US-15 that make easing into a Class C or travel trailer simple. Avoid Main Street in downtown Farmville with anything over 30 feet (it's historic and tight), and stick to the bypass instead. Pro tip: do a slow practice loop in the Walmart lot on South Main before heading to camp.
virginiadot.org/travel/What if I break down during my Farmville RV trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on US-15 outside Keysville or a battery hiccup at Holliday Lake State Park is just a phone call away. RVezy's support team can also reach your host quickly for issues like a finicky water pump. Farmville sits at the intersection of US-460 and US-15, with reliable cell service in town and major service centers in Lynchburg and Richmond if a tow is needed. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone contacts and take photos of the RV at pickup, just in case.
