Campgrounds and RV parks near Fieldale, VA

Fieldale sits in Henry County in southern Virginia, along the Smith River in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The area gives RV travelers access to two distinct camping systems: Virginia State Parks, most notably Fairy Stone State Park to the northwest, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recreation areas ringing Philpott Lake. Both operate within a short drive of town. Close-in options run from riverside RV parks to lake-oriented public campgrounds. Smith River RV Park and Indian Heritage RV Park serve travelers who want full hookups and quick access to the river and to Martinsville. For a state-park setting with hiking, swimming, and a stocked lake, the Equestrian campground at Fairy Stone State Park offers water and electric sites and accommodates rigs up to 50 feet. Goose Dam Campground and Lake Sugar Tree round out the nearby options for RVers looking for quieter, more rustic stays. The region is compact enough that families can base at one campground and day-trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Philpott Reservoir, and the Martinsville area.

Reservations use different systems depending on the campground. Virginia State Parks, including Fairy Stone and its equestrian campground, are booked through reservevaparks.com or by phone at 1-800-933-PARK, with a booking window that opens eleven months in advance. At the equestrian campground, campers without horses must wait until 30 days before their arrival date to reserve a site. Corps of Engineers sites at Philpott Lake, including Goose Point, are reserved through Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777. Weekends in peak season effectively require a reservation. Private parks such as Smith River RV Park and Indian Heritage RV Park take bookings directly through their own websites and phone lines. Walk-ins are sometimes possible mid-week, but calling ahead is the safer path for RV travelers with a fixed itinerary.
