Campgrounds and RV parks near Hollins, VA

Hollins sits just north of Roanoke in the Roanoke Valley, hemmed in by the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and the Alleghenies to the west. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Appalachian Trail, and Smith Mountain Lake, with I-81 providing straightforward access from points north and south. Campground options range from private full-hookup parks to federally managed sites along the Parkway. Roanoke has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers, cold winters, and rainfall spread fairly evenly through the year, though heavy downpours and afternoon thunderstorms are common in warmer months. That mix supports a long RV season, roughly late March through October at lower elevations, with shorter windows at higher-elevation Parkway sites. Nearby options include Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing, Dixie Caverns Campground, Limestone Park, Blue Ridge Campgroud and Marina, and Peaks of Otter Campground - Blue Ridge Parkway National Park. Together they cover full-hookup convenience, lakefront access, and higher-elevation forested sites.

National Park Service sites, including Peaks of Otter Campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway, are reserved through Recreation.gov. Bookings open on a rolling six-month window, and popular fall-color weekends can sell out quickly. A federal recreation account is required, and campers should have rig length, slide-out width, and hookup needs ready at checkout. A portion of sites remain first-come, first-served at the campground kiosk. Private parks such as Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing, Dixie Caverns Campground, Limestone Park, and Blue Ridge Campgroud and Marina take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Holiday weekends and October leaf-peeping dates should be locked in several months ahead. Cancellation policies vary by operator, so review terms before booking.
