Campgrounds and RV parks near Raven, VA

Raven is a small community in Tazewell County in southwest Virginia's Appalachian coalfields, within reach of the Spearhead Trails network and the Virginia elk range in neighboring Buchanan County. The area sits in a folded ridge-and-valley landscape, with campgrounds clustered along creeks and near ATV trailheads rather than in a single national park boundary. RV travelers typically use Raven as a base for off-highway riding, elk viewing, and mountain hiking in the surrounding hollows. The nearest full-service RV option is Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure RV Park, located at the trailhead for the Spearhead Trails Coal Canyon system with connections toward Grundy and Haysi. Smaller private parks in the immediate area include Creek Side RV Park and Laurel Creek RV Park. For a state-park experience, Creekside at Hungry Mother State Park lies east near Marion, and Panther State Forest Group Camp sits across the West Virginia line to the north in McDowell County. Together these options cover full hookups, rustic state-park sites, and group facilities.

Different reservation systems apply depending on the campground. Virginia State Parks accepts reservations online or by phone up to 11 months ahead, which covers Creekside at Hungry Mother State Park. Book early for summer weekends and holidays, as sites fill months out. Panther State Forest and other West Virginia state facilities take advance reservations only from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and the campground runs first-come, first-served through October 31. The group camp is a 60-person barracks with a modern kitchen complex; contact the forest office directly for group-camp availability. Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure RV Park is now operated by Breaks Interstate Park following a December 1 transition, and existing reservations were not affected by the sale. Creek Side RV Park and Laurel Creek RV Park are booked directly with the operators.
