Campgrounds and RV parks near Shawsville, VA

Shawsville sits in Montgomery County along U.S. Route 460 between Roanoke and Blacksburg, in the ridge-and-valley country of southwest Virginia. RV travelers use it as a base for the Blue Ridge Parkway, the New River Valley, and the Jefferson National Forest, with Interstate 81 running roughly ten miles north for straightforward access. Campground options within a short drive range from full-hookup commercial parks to National Park Service sites on the Parkway. Dixie Caverns Campground in Salem sits directly off I-81 near the caverns attraction and offers RV sites with hookups. Floyd Family Campground, southwest of Shawsville, serves as a base for Blue Ridge Mountains trips with RV and tent sites plus cabins. Further along the Parkway, Rocky Knob Campground is one of eight campgrounds on the Blue Ridge Parkway operated by the National Park Service, typically open from late May until the end of October. Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Only Park serves a specialized audience limited to Airstream trailers, and Sportsman RV Campground provides a simple option in the New River area near Radford.

Reservation systems vary by operator. Reservations for Rocky Knob Campground are made online at Recreation.gov or by phone at 1-877-444-6777, and can be booked up to 6 months in advance. The campground almost always has availability, with 44 sites reservable in advance and 62 additional sites held on a first-come, first-served basis. Private parks such as Dixie Caverns Campground, Floyd Family Campground, Sportsman RV Campground, and Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Only Park take bookings directly through their own websites or phone lines. For summer weekends, holiday periods, and October leaf season, reserve as far ahead as possible. Confirm rig length limits, hookup type, and check-in windows before arrival, since older parks and Parkway sites often have tighter driveways and stricter vehicle rules.
