Campgrounds and RV parks near Stewartsville, VA

Stewartsville sits in Bedford County in Virginia's Blue Ridge, roughly halfway between Roanoke and Smith Mountain Lake. The location puts RV travelers within easy reach of two major camping draws: Smith Mountain Lake, the second-largest freshwater lake in Virginia, to the southeast, and the Blue Ridge Parkway to the north, along with the Peaks of Otter recreation area at Milepost 85.6. Campground choices in the area range from full-hookup lakeside RV parks to a National Park Service campground in the mountains. Halesford Harbour Resort and Blue Ridge Campgroud and Marina sit near Smith Mountain Lake with boat access, while Sweetwater RV Park offers a more traditional RV setup nearby. Peaks of Otter Campground - Blue Ridge Parkway National Park provides a wooded, no-hookup experience along the Parkway, and Limestone Park rounds out the closer inland options. Roanoke, about 20 minutes west, serves as the main hub for groceries, RV supplies, hospitals, and propane. Bedford and Moneta cover essentials closer to the lake.

Peaks of Otter Campground - Blue Ridge Parkway National Park uses Recreation.gov, which opens reservations six months in advance. The campground holds 60 sites for advance reservation and 79 first-come, first-served sites that must be booked in person at the campground kiosk. Popular fall weekends sell out quickly. Smith Mountain Lake State Park sites and cabins are booked through the Virginia State Parks reservation system online or by phone, with reservations accepted up to 11 months in advance. Privately run parks near the lake, including Halesford Harbour Resort, Blue Ridge Campgroud and Marina, Sweetwater RV Park, and Limestone Park, each handle their own reservations directly. Some private lakeside parks lean toward seasonal leases rather than nightly stays, so verify nightly availability, hookup type, and RV length limits when calling.
