Campgrounds near Villa Heights
Villa Heights is a small community in Henry County, Virginia, a short drive from downtown Martinsville. The surrounding foothills of the Blue Ridge sit within easy reach of two major water-based recreation areas: Philpott Lake, a 2,900-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir with about 100 miles of shoreline, and the adjoining Fairy Stone State Park.
RV renters using Villa Heights as a base have a mix of options within a short drive. Indian Heritage RV Park and Smith River RV Park serve travelers who want simple hookups close to town, while Goose Dam Campground and Lake Sugar Tree suit visitors who prefer a lake or reservoir setting. The Equestrian - Fairy Stone State Park campground offers RV and trailer sites with water and electric hookups for guests traveling with horses, and can accommodate equipment up to 50 feet long.
The region combines forested ridges, small lakes, and mixed hardwood shoreline, and it sits close enough to the Blue Ridge Parkway to make day trips practical from most sites.
Things to do near Villa Heights
Water recreation drives most trip planning in this area. Philpott Lake covers 2,900 acres and has 100 miles of shoreline, with boating, swimming, and fishing for large and smallmouth bass, walleye, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. Fairy Stone Lake covers 168 acres and prohibits gas-powered boats, though electric trolling motors are permitted; gas-powered boats can be used at Philpott Reservoir about 20 minutes away.
On land, Fairy Stone State Park has more than 15 miles of hiking trails, and horses are allowed on the park's multi-use trails. Unguarded swimming is available at the park's designated beach, with guarded swimming between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. Families often combine a lake day with hunting for the park's namesake staurolite crystals, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is close enough for a half-day drive from most campgrounds.
