Campgrounds and RV parks near Westlake Corner, VA

Westlake Corner sits on the south shore of Smith Mountain Lake in Franklin County, Virginia, roughly 25 miles southeast of Roanoke and 40 miles from Lynchburg. The community serves as a practical base for RV travelers exploring Virginia's second-largest freshwater lake, a 20,000-plus-acre reservoir created in 1963 when the Smith Mountain Dam impounded the Roanoke River. The lake has more than 500 miles of shoreline and draws boaters, anglers, and swimmers throughout the warm season. RV options in the area range from full-hookup private parks to a state park campground on the north shore. Blue Ridge Campgroud and Marina and Halesford Harbour Resort sit close to the water on the Franklin County side, while Sweetwater RV Park and Smith Mountain Campground offer full-hookup sites within a short drive of public boat launches. Goose Dam Campground provides another nearby option for travelers looking for lake access. Beyond the lake, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Booker T. Washington National Monument, and the Roanoke area are all within an hour by road.

Smith Mountain Lake State Park uses the Virginia State Parks reservation system. Sites and cabins can be reserved up to 11 months in advance online through reservevaparks.com or by phone at 1-800-933-PARK. Advance booking is strongly recommended for summer weekends and holidays, and the state park campground is open from the first Friday in March to the first Monday in December. Private parks such as Blue Ridge Campgroud and Marina, Halesford Harbour Resort, Sweetwater RV Park, Smith Mountain Campground, and Goose Dam Campground each handle their own reservations directly, typically through their websites or by phone. Waterfront and pull-through sites tend to book first, so lock in dates early for peak-season stays and check individual park policies on deposits, cancellations, and minimum stays.
