Campgrounds near Alger, Washington
Alger is a small unincorporated community in Skagit County, tucked between Bellingham and Burlington along the I-5 corridor. The area puts RV renters within easy reach of Samish Bay, Chuckanut Drive, the Skagit Valley farmland, and the ferry terminal at Anacortes for San Juan Islands day trips.
Most camping options sit within a short drive of Alger. Friday Creek Thousand Trails Campground offers wooded RV sites along Friday Creek in nearby Bow, while the larger Mount Vernon RV Campground operates as a sister Thousand Trails property with a year-round hot tub, seasonal pools, and a lodge. Burlington / Anacortes KOA Holiday provides a family-focused option with a pool, mini golf, and on-site activities. Skagit Speedway, an active dirt racing facility in Alger, sits beside several of these parks and adds an unusual entertainment draw.
For public-land camping, Larrabee State Park sits on the seaward side of Chuckanut Mountain north of Alger with saltwater shoreline on Samish Bay and the area's most scenic setting.
Things to do near Alger
Outdoor activity centers on Chuckanut Drive and Samish Bay. Larrabee State Park has tidepools, a pebble beach, the popular Fragrance Lake trail, and mountain biking access on Chuckanut Mountain. Boating, fishing, and shellfish harvesting are common, with a recreational license from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife required for fishing or clamming.
Families often combine camping with a Saturday-night race at Skagit Speedway, a 3/10-mile clay oval in Alger that runs weekly shows from April through September, plus signature events like the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup in June. The Skagit Valley tulip fields bloom each spring, and the Anacortes ferry terminal is a short drive south for San Juan Islands day trips. Local stops include Samish Bay shellfish farms, Bow and Edison bakeries and cafes, and mountain bike trails near Bellingham.

Summer is the prime RV window. June through August brings the driest weather, the longest daylight, and mild highs typically in the low 70s Fahrenheit. This is also peak booking season: Larrabee State Park sites are reservable for stays between May 15 and September 15, and demand on Chuckanut Drive runs high on nice-weather weekends from spring through fall.
Shoulder seasons are workable but wetter. Spring brings the tulip festival and greener forests, while September after Labor Day loosens reservations considerably and still offers reasonable weather. Larrabee shifts to first-come, first-served camping from September 16 to May 14, with water typically shut off for winterization from late November through late March.
Winter is the wettest stretch, with November the single wettest month in the Bellingham area. Snow is uncommon at sea level but possible, and some private parks like Friday Creek operate only May through October.

Ryan was great. Super accommodating. Greatly appreciate him making the delivery.

Ryan's RV was perfect for our weekend. We needed overflow space for family gathering for Thanksgiving & Ryan's RV was great! It's very spacious. Lots of space to spread out. When renting, be mindful of having enough space to open both popouts. It gives the RV a very open feel, but you cannot use the RV without opening the popouts. The full bedroom in the back with THREE beds is so great for families with kids -- lots of space for their bags & things. Lastly, definitely be mindful of closing the closet door completely when packing up the RV, as this can cause damage when opening the popouts. All in all, an excellent stay! Ryan was very responsive & super easy to deal with.

How to book
Public-land sites and private resorts use different systems. Larrabee State Park reservations go through the Washington State Parks system at reservations.washington.gov, or by phone at (888) 226-7688. Sites are reservable up to nine months in advance for arrival dates between May 15 and September 15, after which the campground reverts to first-come, first-served.
Thousand Trails properties such as Friday Creek and Mount Vernon RV Campground are booked through the Thousand Trails network, with both membership and non-member options. Burlington / Anacortes KOA Holiday is booked directly through KOA.
A Washington Discover Pass is required for vehicles parking at state recreation lands, though registered campers at state-park campgrounds do not need a separate Discover Pass for the camping stay itself.
What to expect on the ground
Most campgrounds in the Alger area sit in second-growth forest at low elevation, with mixed full-hookup, electric, and tent sites. Cell service can be spotty at quieter properties like Friday Creek, and Wi-Fi at Thousand Trails parks is generally only reliable near the lodge.
Noise is the main planning factor. The BNSF and Amtrak rail line runs through Larrabee State Park and trains pass day and night, so earplugs are recommended for light sleepers. Properties near I-5, including Mount Vernon RV Campground, can carry highway noise. Chuckanut Drive between mileposts 9 and 14 restricts vehicles over 18,000 pounds, so large RVs should approach Larrabee from the north via Bellingham.
Quiet hours and generator hours at state parks are standard: generators run 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with overnight quiet hours.
