Concrete camping overview
Concrete sits along State Route 20 in the Skagit River valley, between Sedro-Woolley and the western entrance to North Cascades National Park. The North Cascades Highway runs through town and follows the Skagit River east toward the park. Concrete works as a practical RV base: groceries, fuel, and a handful of restaurants are on the main strip, and Mount Baker, Baker Lake, and Lake Shannon are all within a short drive north on Baker Lake Road.
Campground options range from full-hookup resorts to first-come dry sites. Concrete / Grandy Creek KOA Holiday sits just east of town and offers long pull-thru RV sites, tent sites, and camping cabins. Rasar State Park is about eight miles west of Concrete along the Skagit, while Kulshan Campground is situated on the western shore of Baker Lake in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, accessed via Baker Lake Road.
For winter visitors, Finney Creek Sno-Park and Mt Baker National Recreation Area Sno-Park provide plowed access to groomed motorized routes on Department of Natural Resources land. The area suits travelers who want a quiet valley base with day trips to glaciers, lakes, and old-growth forest.
Things to do near Concrete
Baker Lake is the primary draw north of town. The reservoir is home to several species of fish, including kokanee, bull trout, rainbow trout, sockeye salmon and mountain whitefish, and the area is popular for camping, boating, fishing, picnicking and hiking. Baker Lake Trail 610 extends along the eastern shoreline, crossing Baker River at the north end of the lake where there is a junction to Baker River Trail 606.
Rasar State Park offers easier walking close to the Skagit. Rasar has a one-mile ADA hiking trail and 3.7 miles of hiking trails. The park's location along the Skagit River makes it particularly valuable for wildlife enthusiasts, especially during the winter months when hundreds of bald eagles congregate along the upper river to feed on salmon.
Further east, Highway 20 climbs into North Cascades National Park, passing Gorge Creek Falls, Diablo Lake Overlook, and trailheads for day hikes. Kayaking, mountain biking, and scenic drives fill out a typical itinerary.

The practical camping season runs from late spring through mid-fall. Kulshan Campground operates seasonally from the second week of May until September 30, and Forest Service campgrounds around Baker Lake follow a similar pattern, opening as snow clears and closing once fall storms set in.
Summer brings the warmest, driest weather and the busiest sites. Sockeye salmon season opens as early as July and fishing enthusiasts flock to Baker Lake, and weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill quickly. Rasar State Park operates year-round, with seasonal programming available from Memorial Day through Labor Day, though water service is reduced in winter.
Winter shifts the activity mix. Finney Creek Sno-Park features 63 miles of motorized snowmobiling trails, and Sno-Park permits are required November 1 through April 30, or as signed. Bald eagles concentrate along the upper Skagit from December into February, drawing wildlife viewers to riverside campgrounds and pullouts.
How to book a campsite near Concrete
Reservation systems vary by operator. All campsites at Rasar State Park are available for reservation (except emergency hold sites), and reservations are highly recommended. Each day unreserved campsites open for one night only starting at 2:30 p.m. Bookings go through the Washington State Parks reservation portal or by phone at 888-CAMPOUT.
The Concrete / Grandy Creek KOA Holiday is reservable through the KOA website or by calling the property directly. Forest Service campgrounds on the west side of Baker Lake use Recreation.gov.
Kulshan Campground works differently. Puget Sound Energy operates the Kulshan Campground, providing approximately 108 tent and RV sites available on a first-come-first-served basis. Reservations are not accepted, so arrive early on summer Fridays to secure a spot.
What to expect on site
Hookup availability is the biggest variable. The KOA offers full-service RV sites, tent sites, and camping cabins. Rasar State Park has 48 campsites with 20 water and electric sites, 18 standard sites, 3 group sites and 3 primitive hiker/bike sites, plus 4 cabins; sites accommodate tents, trailers and RVs up to 40 feet, and amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers and a dump station.
Kulshan Campground is more rustic. The main campground has water for each site but the overflow area is dry camp, and there is no electricity hookup even though the campground is managed by Puget Sound Energy. There is a dump station at the south end of the main campground and a fee is charged. Cell service is spotty around Baker Lake and improves closer to the highway.
A Discover Pass is required for parking at Rasar State Park day-use areas, and Sno-Park permits cover designated winter lots.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Concrete, WA
How much does an RV rental in Concrete, WA typically cost?
RV rental in Concrete, WA is approachable for such a stunning gateway to the North Cascades. On RVezy, travel trailers typically range from $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes run about $175 to $295 per night, and larger Class A rigs can be higher during peak summer. You save the most by booking midweek, traveling in May or September shoulder season, and looking for hosts offering unlimited mileage. For a cheap RV rental in Concrete, filter by travel trailers under $130 and message hosts about multi-night discounts. Many Skagit Valley hosts drop their rates after Labor Day, when the weather is still pleasant and Highway 20 is wide open.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Concrete,WashingtonWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Concrete, Washington?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Concrete, WA. Washington does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement for personal RVs, which covers every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older and upload their license through the RVezy platform for ID confirmation. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). Most first-timers are surprised how straightforward the process is, often confirmed within hours of booking.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Concrete protected if something goes wrong?
Peace of mind is built into every RVezy booking. Every reservation to rent an RV in Concrete includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is one phone call away whether you are parked at Grandy Creek KOA or driving the North Cascades Highway. During checkout you choose from multiple protection plan tiers (the guest selects coverage, not the host), each designed to cover accidental damage to the vehicle within the plan's terms. With cell service patchy beyond Marblemount, it is reassuring that support is reachable through the RVezy app. Pick the tier that matches your comfort level and focus on enjoying the Skagit River views.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Concrete RV rental?
Booking is low-risk, so go ahead and lock in those summer dates. RVezy applies a clear platform-wide cancellation policy to every booking, including a grace period right after you book so you can change plans without penalty. Refund eligibility after that depends on how far out you are from your trip. You will see the full policy details during checkout and in your RVezy account. Book early for July and August in the North Cascades because the best rigs sell out fast, and you have the grace period to lean on if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Concrete, WA RV trip?
Yes, your pup is going to love this trip. Pet-friendly RV rental options in Concrete are plentiful on RVezy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to see hosts who welcome four-legged guests. Once you arrive, Rasar State Park has dog-friendly riverside trails, and the broader Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest allows leashed dogs on most trails (though they are not allowed on most trails inside North Cascades National Park itself). Rockport State Park's old-growth forest loop is a fantastic short walk dogs love. Bring a tie-out, plenty of water, and a towel, because that Skagit River mud is real.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks-and-trails/rasar-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Concrete?
Yes, and this is one of the best ways to start a Concrete RV trip stress-free. Many RVezy hosts in the Skagit Valley and greater Seattle area offer RV delivery in Concrete, meaning they will drive the rig to Grandy Creek KOA, Rasar State Park, Howard Miller Steelhead Park, or a private property along Highway 20, then level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter when searching, and message the host with your exact campground and arrival date. Delivery fees typically scale with distance from Burlington or Mount Vernon. For a first-time RV renter, this option is a game changer because you skip the highway drive entirely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037894133-What-is-RV-deliveryHow far can I drive on a Concrete RV rental, and what about mileage limits?
You have plenty of room to roam. Many motorhome rental hosts around Concrete include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and several offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal because Concrete sits on the North Cascades Highway. From town, it is about 25 miles to the North Cascades Visitor Center in Newhalem, around 135 miles to Winthrop over Washington Pass, 70 miles to Bellingham, and roughly 100 miles to Seattle. Filter for unlimited mileage if you are planning a big loop, or message the host to confirm overage rates. The full Highway 20 loop through Winthrop and back via I-90 is roughly 440 miles of stunning scenery.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/roads-bridges/mountain-pass-information/north-cascades-highway-sr-20Where are the best campgrounds near Concrete, WA?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Concrete include Concrete/Grandy Creek KOA Holiday with pull-throughs and full hookups suitable for big rigs; Rasar State Park, a year-round Skagit River park with electric and water sites; Howard Miller Steelhead County Park in nearby Rockport, popular for winter eagle watching; Newhalem Creek Campground inside North Cascades National Park, generally open mid-May to mid-September with a dump station; and Horseshoe Cove Campground on Baker Lake for that turquoise-water view. Most book through Recreation.gov, the Washington State Parks reservation system, or directly with the park. Try to secure Baker Lake sites the moment they open, as they go quickly.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725When is the best time to visit Concrete, WA in an RV?
Mid-June through late September is the sweet spot for RV camping in Concrete. Daytime highs in July and August typically run from the upper 60s to upper 70s Fahrenheit, nights cool into the 50s (bring a hoodie), and the full North Cascades Highway is open with alpine trails snow-free. May and October are quieter shoulder seasons with lower rates, but expect rain and possible early snow at high elevations. The Upper Skagit Bald Eagle Festival in late January is a uniquely local reason to visit in winter if you do not mind cold-weather camping. Late September brings golden larches in the high country and crisp river views.
weather.gov/sew/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Concrete?
You are going to do great, and Concrete is one of the friendlier places in Washington to learn. Highway 20 west of town is wide, fairly straight, and lightly trafficked compared with I-5, giving first-time RV renters room to settle in. Your RVezy host provides a full orientation at pickup covering brakes, propane, leveling, and the dump valve, and they are a text away during your trip. Stick to lower elevations on day one, avoid driving in fog along the Skagit River at dawn, and use the frequent pullouts. Pick a Class C or smaller travel trailer for easier handling on the winding stretch east of Marblemount.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time/traffic-camerasWhat happens if my RV breaks down near Concrete?
You are covered, no panic needed. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, so one call gets help dispatched whether you have a flat tire on Baker Lake Road or an electrical issue near Newhalem. Cell coverage is solid in Concrete town and along most of Highway 20 to Marblemount, but gets spotty past Newhalem, so screenshot your RVezy support number and host contact before heading deeper into the park. Your host is also your first resource for quirks specific to that rig. Top off fuel in Concrete or Marblemount before continuing east, as the next reliable station is in Mazama, roughly 75 miles away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Concrete RV rental into Canada or across state lines?
Yes, many guests do cross-border loops from here. Hosts often allow travel throughout Washington and into Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia, which puts Vancouver, Whistler, and Manning Park within reach of an RV road trip from Concrete. Confirm cross-border permission directly with your host and request a written authorization letter before crossing into Canada, since insurance and registration paperwork is required at the border. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Have your passport ready and declare any food, alcohol, and firewood at the crossing. The Sumas border crossing about 50 miles northwest is often faster than Blaine.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will fuel cost for an RV trip from Concrete?
Budgeting is easier than you might think. Class C motorhomes around Concrete average 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans get 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Washington gas prices typically run noticeably above the national average, with stations in Concrete, Burlington, and Marblemount being your best bets along Highway 20. A 4-night RV road trip from Concrete out to Winthrop and back, roughly 135 miles each way, often costs about $120 to $200 in fuel for a midsize motorhome depending on current pump prices. Fill up in Burlington off I-5 where prices are often lower than at small-town pumps further east.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Concrete?
Book sooner than you think, especially for summer weekends. National Park Service sites like Newhalem Creek and Colonial Creek open reservations on Recreation.gov six months ahead and prime weekends fill quickly. Washington State Parks including Rasar and Rockport open booking nine months out through the Washington State Parks reservation system. Private parks like Grandy Creek KOA take reservations year-round and have more flexibility. For July and August, aim to lock in by February. If you strike out on reservations, Howard Miller Steelhead Park in Rockport and several Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest sites keep first-come-first-served loops that can save the day.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725What are the driving conditions like on Highway 20 near Concrete?
Highway 20, also called the North Cascades Highway, is one of the most scenic drives in America and very manageable in an RV during summer. The road from Concrete east to Newhalem is gently winding with wide shoulders, then climbs through tighter switchbacks over Rainy Pass (4,855 feet) and Washington Pass (5,477 feet). The pass section closes every winter, typically mid-November through mid-April, due to avalanche danger. Watch for logging trucks, deer at dusk, and sudden fog along the Skagit River. Check WSDOT's mountain pass page the morning of your drive, use lower gears descending the east side, and do not miss the Diablo Lake overlook turnout.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/roads-bridges/mountain-pass-information/north-cascades-highway-sr-20What amenities can I expect at campgrounds around Concrete?
Expect a great range from full-service resorts to rustic forest sites. Grandy Creek KOA offers full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp electric), Wi-Fi, showers, and laundry. Rasar State Park has sites with electric and water plus a dump station and hot showers. National Park Service campgrounds like Newhalem Creek provide flush toilets, potable water spigots, and a dump station but no individual hookups, so plan to use onboard tanks. Forest Service sites at Baker Lake are mostly dry camping with vault toilets. Looking for where to park an RV in Concrete with full hookups? Grandy Creek KOA is your easiest answer. The Newhalem dump station is convenient for registered campers mid-trip.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725What is inside a typical RVezy rental in Concrete?
You will be impressed by how home-like these rigs feel. Most Concrete-area motorhomes and trailers sleep 4 to 8 with a queen bed, convertible dinette, fridge-freezer, three-burner stove, microwave, full bathroom with shower, hot water heater, propane furnace, and roof-top air conditioning. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and generator or solar setup for off-grid stays at Baker Lake. Wi-Fi varies, so plan for limited signal east of Marblemount. Every passenger needs a seatbelt while driving, so check the rig's seatbelt count against your group size on the listing. Message the host before booking to confirm bedding, kitchen kit, and camp chairs are included so you can pack lighter.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Concrete,WashingtonWhat add-ons and pickup options are typical for a campervan rental in Concrete?
Hosts make customizing your trip easy. Common add-ons for a campervan rental in Concrete or motorhome rental include bedding and linen kits, camp chair and table bundles, generator use, propane fills, kayaks and paddleboards, bike racks, and pet cleaning fees. Pickup typically happens at the host's home base in Burlington, Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley, or right in Concrete, with a 45 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Mileage and add-on pricing vary by listing, so check the listing for daily allowance and overage rates. Ask about event use if you are heading to the Upper Skagit Bald Eagle Festival or Cascade Days, since some hosts restrict event travel and others welcome it.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Concrete,WashingtonHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and fully handled inside the RVezy platform, with no cash or side deals with hosts. You pay the rental total, taxes, RVezy service fee, and any host add-ons at checkout with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before pickup (amounts vary by rig) and released after the host confirms the RV came back clean, undamaged, and with tanks per their policy. Keep all messaging on the RVezy platform so everything is documented. Take dated photos and a short video of the interior, exterior, and odometer at pickup and drop-off to help your deposit return smoothly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Concrete during winter, and what should I know?
Yes, and winter in the Skagit Valley is a hidden gem if you come prepared. RV rental Washington listings around Concrete thin out from December through February, but several hosts keep four-season rigs available with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable propane furnaces. The eastern stretch of Highway 20 over the passes closes mid-November to mid-April, but the route from Burlington through Concrete to Newhalem stays open year-round, and Rasar State Park camps all winter. The Skagit River bald eagle migration peaks in January around Howard Miller Steelhead Park, drawing photographers from around the world. Book a rig with shore power capability, plug in nightly at Grandy Creek or Rasar, and you will stay comfortable when temperatures dip into the low 30s.
