Campgrounds and RV parks near Keyport, WA

The headline stop is the U.S. Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport, with free admission and parking, open Wednesday through Monday from 10am to 4pm. Exhibits cover Navy undersea history, technology, salvage, and exploration, including torpedoes, deep submersibles, and a recreated submarine control room. It works well as a rainy-day plan with kids. Outdoors, Illahee State Park has a fishing pier, beach access for crabbing and clamming, and a stand of old-growth timber including Pacific yew trees. At Kitsap Memorial, visitors enjoy boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking, beachcombing, and wildlife viewing along 1,797 feet of Hood Canal saltwater shoreline; note that shellfish harvesting is not allowed at Kitsap Memorial. Nearby Poulsbo offers a walkable Scandinavian-themed waterfront, and Bainbridge Island connects by a short drive and ferry ride to downtown Seattle.

The Kitsap Peninsula has a mild marine climate with a sharp wet-dry contrast. Bremerton, the nearest large town, sits in a warm-summer Mediterranean climate zone with mild, wet winters. Summer high season runs roughly mid-June through early September, with long daylight, lower rainfall, and the warmest water for paddling and shellfishing. State park campsites and popular private parks fill quickly for summer weekends and major holidays. Shoulder seasons in May, early June, and September can be ideal for RV travelers who want hookups without summer crowds. Expect cool mornings and a higher chance of showers, but generally drivable conditions across the peninsula and the Hood Canal Bridge. Winter is the wettest stretch, with November typically the wettest month, averaging roughly 234 mm of precipitation over about 21 rainy days. Kitsap state parks remain open through the off-season; Illahee offers year-round camping, with all sites reservable and first-come, first-served available when sites are not reserved. Always check Washington State Parks for winter schedule changes.

Roads onto the Kitsap Peninsula are generally RV-friendly but can be narrow in places. From Seattle, RVs can use the Bainbridge Island or Bremerton ferries, or drive around via the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and Highway 3. Ferry vehicle space is limited, so larger rigs should plan around peak crossings. The Hood Canal Bridge is a floating bridge that occasionally opens for marine traffic. Site size varies. Illahee has 23 standard sites plus one full-hookup site, with 19 sites that can accommodate RVs between 20 and 30 feet, a dump station, and restrooms with showers. Kitsap Memorial has 19 standard sites, three partial-hookup sites, eight full-hookup sites, three hiker/biker sites, and four cabins, with restrooms, showers, and drinking water. Cell coverage is generally good, and services are nearby in Poulsbo and Bremerton.
