Kingston camping overview
Kingston sits on the north end of the Kitsap Peninsula, on Appletree Cove across Puget Sound from Edmonds. The Washington State Ferry from Edmonds lands right in town, which makes Kingston a practical entry point for RV renters heading toward the Olympic Peninsula, Hood Canal, or Port Townsend.
Camping options within a short drive range from casino resorts with paved full-hookup sites to a state-park campground on saltwater. The Point Casino and Hotel and Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort offer RV parking close to Kingston and Suquamish. Eagle Tree RV Park and Cedar Glen RV Park provide private-park hookups nearby, and Kitsap Memorial State Park sits on Hood Canal a short drive west of town.
Kitsap Memorial is the closest state-park campground and the main public option in the area. It has standard, partial-hookup, and full-hookup sites, plus four cabins, and it is open year-round with reservations available up to nine months ahead through Washington State Parks.
Things to do near Kingston
The Edmonds-Kingston ferry puts Seattle and the Puget Sound waterfront within reach without moving the RV. In Kingston itself, the marina, small downtown, and Mike Wallace Park sit within walking distance of the ferry terminal, and the Suquamish Museum and Chief Seattle's grave are a short drive south.
Hood Canal and Puget Sound shape most outdoor activity. Kitsap Memorial State Park has almost 1,800 feet of saltwater shoreline with tide pools, shellfish harvesting, kayaking, and diving, plus play fields and picnic areas suitable for families. The closest boat launch is at Salisbury Point County Park, four miles north on State Route 3.
The Hood Canal Bridge, just north of the park, connects to the Olympic Peninsula, opening up day trips to Port Townsend, Sequim, and the northeast corner of Olympic National Park.

Summer is the peak RV season. June through August brings the driest weather, mild highs in the low seventies Fahrenheit, and the fullest campgrounds. Waterfront sites at Kitsap Memorial State Park and popular private parks fill early, and holiday weekends typically book out weeks in advance. Reserving as soon as the nine-month Washington State Parks booking window opens is the safest approach for summer.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with cooler temperatures, more rain, and much better availability. April, May, September, and October work well for RV travelers who want quieter campgrounds and can accept a mix of sun and showers. The group campsite at Kitsap Memorial can be reserved April 1 through October 31.
Winter camping is possible because Kitsap Memorial and several private parks stay open year-round, but expect steady rain, short daylight, and cool nights in the upper thirties Fahrenheit. Snow is uncommon at sea level.

How to book near Kingston
Kitsap Memorial State Park uses the Washington State Parks reservation system at washington.goingtocamp.com, with a phone line at 888-CAMPOUT. Sites, cabins, and the group camp can be reserved up to nine months in advance from the booking date, and same-day online booking is available until 2 p.m. on the arrival date. A Discover Pass is required for day-use vehicle access to Washington state parks; overnight campers do not need one during their stay.
Private parks in the area, including The Point Casino and Hotel, Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort, Eagle Tree RV Park, and Cedar Glen RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or phone lines. For summer weekends and ferry-heavy travel days, book several months out.
What to expect near Kingston
Kingston is a small ferry town, so grocery runs, fuel, and propane are available locally, with larger stores in Poulsbo and Silverdale a short drive south. Cell coverage is generally good across the Kitsap Peninsula. Ferry wait times can be significant on summer weekends and holidays, so RV travelers arriving from Edmonds should plan for extra time in the vehicle line.
Campgrounds vary in character. Kitsap Memorial State Park has full-hookup sites on more open terrain and rustic sites tucked under dense trees, and it accommodates RVs up to about forty feet. Casino-adjacent parks offer flatter, paved sites with easier big-rig access, while smaller private parks are quieter and more residential in feel. Bring rain gear year-round and check for burn bans in Kitsap and Jefferson counties before planning campfires.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Kingston, WA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Kingston, WA?
RV rental in Kingston, WA is more affordable than most travelers expect. On RVezy, peer-to-peer rentals typically run about $90 to $180 per night for travel trailers, $150 to $275 for Class C motorhomes, and $125 to $200 for campervans. Because hosts set their own nightly pricing, you can filter by budget and find a cheap RV rental in Kingston that fits your trip. Shoulder-season travel in April, May, and late September often drops rates 20 to 30 percent versus the July to August peak when Edmonds-Kingston ferry traffic is highest. Pro tip: book a travel trailer with delivery to Kitsap Memorial State Park and skip the towing learning curve entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kingston,WashingtonWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Kingston?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Kingston, WA. Washington State does not require a special endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for any of the motorhomes or trailers you will find on RVezy, including Class A, Class C, and fifth wheels. RVezy approved drivers must generally be 25 or older, and ID verification happens quickly through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the process is, and your host walks you through the rig at pickup so you are never figuring things out alone.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs insurance and roadside assistance included with my Kingston RV rental?
Yes. Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so your Kingston RV trip is covered from the moment you drive off. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the vehicle and gives you real peace of mind. During checkout you choose your coverage tier (not the host), so you stay in control of how much protection you want. Roadside help is just a phone call away whether you are parked at the Kingston ferry terminal, exploring Hansville, or driving Highway 104 across the Hood Canal Bridge. That built-in safety net is why so many first-timers feel confident booking a motorhome rental in Kingston.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I need to cancel my Kingston RV booking?
Booking your RV rental in Kingston is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not the individual host. There is a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your trip with confidence. If plans change, weather turns, or a Washington State Ferries disruption affects your route, refund eligibility depends on how far out from your trip date you cancel. If your host cancels, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credit. You will see the applicable cancellation details during checkout and in your booking confirmation, so you can secure the RV you want now and adjust if needed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Kingston RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Kingston is easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see plenty of hosts who welcome dogs. The Kitsap Peninsula is one of the most dog-loving corners of Washington: Point No Point Lighthouse beach in Hansville (about 10 minutes north) allows leashed dogs along the shoreline, and Kitsap Memorial State Park has pet-friendly campsites and trails. Washington State Ferries also allow leashed dogs on the car deck and exterior decks of the Edmonds-Kingston route, which makes ferry-hopping with your pup a breeze. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee, and pack a towel because the beaches here are gloriously wet.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/kitsap-memorial-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Kingston?
Yes, RV delivery in Kingston is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who don't want to drive a big rig onto the Edmonds-Kingston ferry. Many local hosts will deliver your trailer or motorhome directly to Kitsap Memorial State Park, Point No Point County Park, or even a private driveway in Hansville, Indianola, or Poulsbo, then set up the leveling jacks, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Just filter by Delivery on the search page and message hosts for a quote (fees are usually based on distance). It's the easiest way to start your Kingston RV trip already parked, plugged in, and ready to relax.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/kitsap-memorial-state-parkHow far can I drive from Kingston on a typical RV rental?
You can cover serious ground from Kingston because the Kitsap Peninsula puts you within a half-day drive of some of Washington's best scenery. Olympic National Park's Hurricane Ridge is about 75 miles west (roughly 2 hours via Highway 104 and Highway 101), Port Townsend is just 30 miles north, Mount Rainier National Park is around 130 miles southeast, and the North Cascades sit about 150 miles northeast. Most RVezy hosts in the Kingston area include a daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles) with the option to pre-purchase additional miles, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Check the listing's mileage policy before booking and you'll know exactly what your range looks like.
nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/hurricane-ridge.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Kingston, WA?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Kingston. Kitsap Memorial State Park, about 8 miles south on Hood Canal, has 18 utility sites with water and electric and stunning sunset views over the Olympic Mountains. Point No Point County Park in Hansville offers waterfront tent and small-RV sites near the historic 1879 lighthouse. The Point Casino & Hotel RV Park, just minutes from the Kingston ferry, has 10 full-hookup sites open year-round. Scenic Beach State Park on Hood Canal (about 35 minutes south near Seabeck) is a local favorite for oyster-strewn beaches. Pro tip: these waterfront sites book months ahead for summer, so reserve early through Washington State Parks for the best spots.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/kitsap-memorial-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Kingston?
Late June through mid-September is the sweet spot for a Kingston RV trip, with daytime highs in the mid-70s°F, long Pacific Northwest daylight (sunset after 9 p.m. in July), and the lowest rainfall of the year. May and early October are the local insider picks: temperatures still hit the 60s, campgrounds are quieter, ferry waits are shorter, and rates drop noticeably. Winters are mild but wet, with average lows around 36°F and frequent rain, though many RVezy hosts in Kingston rent year-round if you want a cozy off-season getaway. Pro tip: book your ferry reservation on the Edmonds-Kingston route in advance during summer, slots fill fast on weekends.
weather.gov/sew/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Kingston?
Yes, first time renting an RV in Kingston is genuinely manageable, and you've picked a great area for it. Kingston itself is a small ferry town with quiet two-lane roads, and the surrounding Kitsap Peninsula has gentle terrain (mostly under 500 feet elevation) and well-maintained highways like Highway 104 and Highway 3. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, propane, water, and dumping. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host who offers delivery and they'll set the RV up at your campsite. Pro tip: practice a few turns in the Kingston Park & Ride lot before heading out, and avoid the Highway 104 Hood Canal Bridge during Friday evening rush.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/roads-bridges/bridges/hood-canal-bridgeWhat if my RV breaks down during my Kingston trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are stuck on Highway 104, parked at Kitsap Memorial State Park, or waiting in the Edmonds-Kingston ferry line. The roadside team handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing to a qualified repair shop. Your host is also typically a quick call away for questions specific to their rig, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. That layered safety net is a big reason travelers feel comfortable trying RV camping in Kingston for the first time.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Kingston?
An RV road trip from Kingston puts the whole Olympic Peninsula and Puget Sound within easy reach. The classic loop heads west on Highway 104 to Port Townsend (30 miles), then down Highway 101 to Lake Crescent and Hurricane Ridge (about 75 miles), and on to the rainforests of the Hoh and Quinault (around 150 miles total). Another favorite is the Hood Canal scenic drive south through Seabeck and Hoodsport. You can also hop the Edmonds-Kingston ferry for a quick Seattle visit, or head north to Anacortes (90 miles) to catch the San Juan Islands ferry. Travel into Canada may be possible with host approval, but trips to Mexico are not covered.
nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/driving-directions.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and a Kingston RV trip is very affordable on fuel. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, and if you're towing a travel trailer with your own vehicle, expect a 25 to 35 percent drop from your usual MPG. Washington gas prices tend to run higher than the national average, so budget accordingly when you fill up at the Chevron or Shell near the Kingston ferry terminal. For a typical 3-night trip with around 200 miles of driving, most renters spend $80 to $160 on fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Poulsbo or Silverdale, where prices often run a few cents cheaper than Kingston proper.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Kingston?
For summer weekends at Washington State Parks like Kitsap Memorial or Scenic Beach, reserve as early as possible. The Washington State Parks reservation window opens 9 months ahead, and the best waterfront sites are often gone within minutes of opening. For shoulder-season trips in May or September, 4 to 6 weeks ahead is usually plenty. Private parks like The Point Casino RV Park tend to be more flexible and are often bookable a week or two out. Pro tip: if everything looks full, message an RVezy host who offers delivery and ask about lesser-known county parks like Buck Lake or Salsbury Point, both within 10 minutes of Kingston and often overlooked.
washington.goingtocamp.com/What are driving conditions like around Kingston and the Kitsap Peninsula?
Driving an RV around Kingston is refreshingly low-stress compared to most metro areas. Roads are well-paved, traffic is light outside of ferry-loading times, and the terrain stays gentle. The main thing to plan for is the Edmonds-Kingston ferry: vehicle reservations are strongly recommended in summer, and tall RVs (over 7 feet 6 inches) pay an over-height surcharge. The Hood Canal Bridge on Highway 104 is open to all RV sizes but can briefly close for marine traffic. Winter brings rain and occasional wind, but snow is rare at sea level. Pro tip: download the WSDOT Ferries app to time your sailing perfectly and skip the worst of the wait, especially on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings.
wsdot.com/ferries/schedule/scheduledetailbyroute.aspx?route=ed-kingWhat amenities can I expect at Kingston-area campgrounds?
Kingston-area campgrounds range from full-hookup luxury to peaceful waterfront simplicity, so you can pick the vibe that matters most. Kitsap Memorial State Park offers utility sites with water and 30/50-amp electric, plus a dump station, potable water fill, hot showers, and a sani-can station. The Point Casino RV Park has full hookups (water, sewer, electric) and is monitored by security. Many county parks like Point No Point are more rustic with vault toilets and no hookups, perfect for self-contained RVs. The closest public RV dump stations are at Kitsap Memorial State Park and the Suquamish dump station off Highway 305. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the ferry, fill stations near the terminal save a detour.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/kitsap-memorial-state-parkWhat features and amenities come with a typical Kingston RV rental?
You'll be impressed by what comes standard. Most RVs on RVezy in the Kingston area sleep 4 to 8 people and include a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, a dinette that converts to a bed, heating and air conditioning, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Many also have a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a propane generator for off-grid power. Wi-Fi is usually BYO (bring your own hotspot), and Kingston has solid cell coverage. Linens, kitchen kits, camp chairs, and bikes are often available as add-ons. Pro tip: ask your host about a leveling block kit, several Kitsap-area sites have a slight slope and it makes setup a breeze.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/kitsap-memorial-state-parkHow do pickup, drop-off, and add-ons work for a Kingston RV rental?
Pickup and drop-off are flexible because each RVezy host sets their own logistics. Most Kingston-area hosts meet you at their home for a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough covering driving, hookups, propane, and dumping, then take the keys back at the same spot. Many also offer delivery to local campgrounds (a popular choice for the Edmonds-Kingston ferry crowd, who don't want to drive a big rig onto the boat). Add-ons commonly include extra mileage packages, generator hours, propane refills, bedding kits, and bike racks, all visible on the listing. Pro tip: confirm pickup time aligns with your ferry reservation, midday pickups around 1 to 2 p.m. give you the best chance of a smooth start.
wsdot.com/ferries/fares/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Kingston, WA, you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host in cash. A refundable security deposit (typically several hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card separately from your booking payment before your trip starts. As long as the rig is returned in good shape, on time, and with the agreed fuel and dump status, the hold is released after your trip ends. Take photos at pickup and drop-off, follow the host's fueling instructions, and use in-app messaging so everything is documented.
