Campgrounds and RV parks near La Conner, WA

The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival runs through April, with tulip and daffodil fields concentrated between La Conner and Mount Vernon. Five partner gardens open their fields, and peak bloom typically falls in the second or third week of April depending on weather. The Tulip Parade moves down La Conner's First Street on a Saturday in early April. Outside festival weeks, the Padilla Bay Shore Trail offers flat dike walking with bay and farmland views, and the Breazeale Interpretive Center covers estuary ecology. Deception Pass State Park, about a half-hour drive, has saltwater shoreline, the Goose Rock summit hike, and the 1935 bridge. La Conner itself has a compact waterfront with shops, the Museum of Northwest Art, and restaurants along First Street. Anacortes and the Washington State Ferries terminal to the San Juan Islands are roughly twenty minutes north.

April is the busiest month by a wide margin. The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival runs April 1 through 30 across Skagit County, drawing visitors to working tulip and daffodil farms spread between Mount Vernon and La Conner. RV sites at La Conner RV and Camping Resort, Pioneer Trails RV Resort, and Bay View State Park fill weeks to months ahead for tulip-season weekends. Summer is the second peak. Days are mild and notably drier than the rest of the year, and traffic on Highway 20 picks up with travelers heading to the San Juan ferry and Deception Pass. Weekends from late June through Labor Day fill early, often months in advance. Washington State Parks reservations open up to nine months ahead of arrival. Fall and winter bring quieter campgrounds, heavy rain, and short daylight. November is the wettest month in the Skagit Valley, averaging around 165 mm of rainfall. At Bay View State Park, sites 39 through 77 close between November 1 and May 1, and water service to those loops is shut off from early November until early March. Snow falls occasionally but rarely accumulates.

Expect flat valley terrain, saltwater shoreline, and a working agricultural landscape. Most campgrounds near La Conner are open and exposed rather than deep forest, with views across farm fields, the Swinomish Channel, or Padilla and Fidalgo Bays. Sites range from full-hookup pull-throughs at private resorts to back-in tent and partial-hookup sites at Bay View State Park, where all campsites are back-in with a maximum length of 50 feet. Cell service is generally reliable across the Skagit Flats and weakens slightly on Fidalgo Island. Padilla Bay is shallow and tide-driven, so paddlers should check tide tables before launching. Wind off the water can be steady, especially in spring. Pack rain gear year-round and layers for cool evenings even in summer.
