Campgrounds and RV parks near Swede Heaven, WA

The Whitehorse Trail, a former rail corridor, runs through the community and stretches about 30 miles from Arlington to Darrington, offering long, gentle walking and biking. River fishing, rafting, and wildlife watching are common on the Stillaguamish and Skagit rivers, and the Darrington area has long supported horseback riding and hiking on adjacent national forest land. A short drive north puts campers on the Skagit River, where hundreds of bald eagles congregate along the upper river to feed on salmon in winter. Day trips reach Mount Baker, Baker Lake, and the western entrance to North Cascades National Park. In town, Darrington hosts community events including the Timberbowl Rodeo and bluegrass gatherings, plus a small grocery and a few restaurants for resupply.

Summer is the prime camping window. June through early September brings the driest, warmest weather and the highest demand at every developed campground in the area. Rasar State Park and the Concrete / Grandy Creek KOA Holiday both fill quickly on summer weekends, and reservations should be made well in advance. Spring and fall are quieter but wetter. River levels can rise quickly after heavy rain, and because of the rivers and creeks, flooding is a seasonal concern in the valley. Fall and early winter bring the bald eagle migration on the Skagit, with prime viewing from November through February when birds congregate along the upper river. Winter shifts the area toward snow recreation. Segelson Creek Sno-Park sits in the Mount Baker and Methow region and features 63 miles of motorized snowmobiling trails, accessed from Forest Road 18 north of Swede Heaven. Glacier Peak Resort and the Concrete / Grandy Creek KOA Holiday operate on reduced winter schedules, while Rasar State Park follows the Washington State Parks winter schedule with possible loop closures.

Sites vary widely. Rasar State Park is a developed park with 18 standard tent sites, 20 utility sites with water and electricity, and 13 walk-in campsites, with three walk-in sites designated exclusively for hikers and bikers and two featuring Adirondack shelters. The park has flush toilets, showers, a dump station, an ADA hiking trail, and a playground suited to families. Concrete / Grandy Creek KOA Holiday is built for larger rigs and family stays, with long pull-thru RV sites, tent sites, and camping cabins. Glacier Peak Resort offers RV spots, cabins, and riverfront tent sites along the Sauk and Skagit corridor. Cell service in the river valleys is patchy, and Sno-Parks are day-use lots, not overnight campgrounds.
