Campgrounds and RV parks near Tonasket, WA

Fishing drives much of the calendar. Spectacle Lake, Bonaparte Lake, and Lost Lake hold rainbow, brook, and cutthroat trout, with boat ramps at the developed campgrounds and electric-motor-only rules on some lakes. Spectacle Lake Resort and Sun Cove Resort and Guest Ranch put guests directly on the water for fishing, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. Hikers can reach the Pipsissewa Trail and the Bonaparte Mountain Fire Lookout from the Bonaparte Lake area, and the short Big Tree Trail at Lost Lake passes ancient western larches. Gravel forest roads east of town suit mountain biking and off-highway vehicle use. In town, the Okanogan River offers float and paddle access, and the surrounding county roads connect to wineries, farm stands, and the Loomis-Oroville scenic drive.

The core RV season runs from late May through early October. Most Forest Service campgrounds in the Tonasket Ranger District, including Bonaparte Lake, open in mid-May and close in mid-October once water systems are winterized. Summer days are hot and dry, with July highs averaging in the low 80s Fahrenheit, and the area sees abundant sunshine through summer. Spring arrives slowly at elevation. Lower-elevation parks along the Okanogan River open earlier, but lake campgrounds above 3,000 feet can hold snow into May. June brings wildflowers, longer days, and strong fishing conditions before the heat peaks. Late summer is fire season. Smoke from regional wildfires can affect air quality and trigger temporary closures or burn bans across the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, so check current alerts before traveling. Fall cools quickly after mid-September with crisp nights, fewer crowds, and the larches turning gold in October. Winter brings hard freezes and snow cover; most private RV parks reduce services and many public campgrounds close entirely.

Tonasket is a small town with a grocery store, hardware store, fuel, and propane. Stock up here before heading east into the forest; services thin out quickly past the Bonaparte Recreation Area turnoff. Cell coverage is reliable in town and along Highway 97 but drops in the lake basins and on forest roads, with no service at Bonaparte Lake Campground. Developed Forest Service campgrounds typically offer vault or flush toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, and fire rings, but no hookups. Private RV parks in the Tonasket area provide water, power, and sewer, with many sites accommodating larger rigs along the river or on open lots. Summers are dry and dusty, so expect washboard on gravel forest roads and bring extra water. Wildlife includes mule deer, black bear, elk, and occasional moose; food storage matters. Burn restrictions are common from July through September.
