Campgrounds and RV parks near Bolt, WV

Bolt sits in Raleigh County in southern West Virginia, within roughly a half-hour drive of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve and several state park campgrounds. The terrain is Appalachian plateau: forested ridges, coal-country back roads, and river valleys. Elevations at nearby campgrounds range from around 1,300 feet along the New River to over 2,500 feet at the higher ridge sites, which affects overnight temperatures even in summer. The regional climate is cool-temperate and humid. The hottest month is July with an average daily high near 79°F, while the coldest is January averaging around 19°F at night. That climate window keeps most private campgrounds and state park sites open from spring through fall, while a handful of national park primitive areas stay open year-round. Close-in options for RV travelers include Twin Falls Resort State Park to the west, Little Beaver State Park near Beckley, Raleigh County Parks facilities, Wood Mountain Campground, and Army Camp in the New River Gorge unit. Each has a different mix of hookups, road access, and reservation rules, so route planning matters more here than in flatter regions.

Reservation rules vary by operator. West Virginia state parks allow campsite reservations 12 months in advance through reservations.wvstateparks.com. That covers Twin Falls Resort State Park and Little Beaver State Park. Sites at Twin Falls, which also includes a lodge, book earliest for holiday weekends. Army Camp in the New River Gorge is a primitive National Park Service campground where sites are free and first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. Plan to arrive early on Friday during peak months, or use it as a mid-week base. Raleigh County Parks and private options such as Wood Mountain Campground handle bookings directly through their own offices or websites. Confirm rig length limits before booking, especially for larger travel trailers and Class A motorhomes.
