Campgrounds and RV parks near Como, WI

Geneva Lake is the anchor attraction. A public Shore Path circles the entire lake past historic estates, and boat cruises, rentals, and swimming beaches operate out of Lake Geneva and Fontana. Big Foot Beach State Park offers a sand swimming beach, 900 feet of shoreline, and roughly 6.5 miles of hiking trails that convert to cross-country ski use in winter when snow allows. For water-based days, Turtle Lake and the 640-acre Whitewater Lake add fishing, boating, and paddling options close to the private campgrounds in the area. Scenic Ridge Campground rents pontoons, kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards to guests on Whitewater Lake. Inland, the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest sits a short drive north with hiking, mountain biking, and access to the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Downtown Lake Geneva delivers restaurants, ice cream shops, mini golf, and family-friendly attractions within a short drive of Como.

The primary camping season runs from late spring through early fall. Wisconsin State Park campgrounds, including Big Foot Beach State Park, accept advance reservations through the Wisconsin State Park reservation system up to 11 months ahead of the arrival date, and popular summer weekends can be claimed the same morning the calendar opens. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill first, especially at the state park and lakeside private campgrounds. July and August bring warm, humid days ideal for swimming and boating, along with the busiest downtown Lake Geneva crowds. June and September are quieter shoulder options with pleasant temperatures and easier reservations. October offers fall color across the Kettle Moraine but unpredictable weather, with cold snaps possible. Winter is off-season for most private campgrounds in the area, though hiking and cross-country ski use continues at Big Foot Beach State Park when snow cover allows. RV renters should confirm operating dates directly, since several private parks close from mid-fall through spring and reopen in April or May.

Big Foot Beach State Park has 100 sites, 34 of which have electric pedestals, plus a dump station, vault toilets, and a shower building. Sites are wooded and can feel close together on busy weekends; most accommodate RVs up to about 40 feet, with a few able to fit rigs up to 55 feet. There are no water or sewer hookups at individual sites. Private parks in the area offer more RV-oriented infrastructure. Scenic Ridge Campground on Whitewater Lake offers 20/30/50-amp electric and water at sites with a central dump station, laundry, a camp store with snack menu, sandy beach, and boat launch, though its short-term sites are typically limited to RVs up to about 30 feet. Snug Harbor Inn Campground on Turtle Lake provides hookup RV sites with lake access. Expect mosquitoes near the lakes in early summer. Only certified firewood or wood from within 10 miles of the park is allowed at state park sites, and most private parks sell firewood on-site.
