Campgrounds and RV parks near Darien, WI

The main draw is Geneva Lake. A public shore path circles the entire lake and stays open to walkers regardless of property lines, and swimming, boating, and fishing are all easy day trips from any of the nearby campgrounds. Big Foot Beach State Park adds about five miles of hiking trails and a swimming beach within its boundaries. Inland, the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest offers hiking, mountain biking, and paddling on Whitewater Lake. Families staying at Scenic Ridge Campground can walk to the boat ramp, sandy swimming beach, and inflatable water toys on the lake. Off-water options include the White River State Trail for biking, Yerkes Observatory in Williams Bay, and the shops, restaurants, and lakefront in downtown Lake Geneva.

The camping season in this part of Wisconsin runs roughly from late April through mid-October. Big Foot Beach State Park is open seasonally from late April to mid-October, and the state campground draws its heaviest demand from late May through early September. Scenic Ridge Campground operates on a similar mid-April to mid-October schedule. Summer is peak season. Weekends around Geneva Lake fill quickly because the area sits within an easy drive of Chicago and Milwaukee, and popular electric sites in the state system can book out months ahead. Weekday arrivals and shoulder-season trips in May, September, and early October see far more availability and cooler, quieter conditions. Winters are cold and snowy. Most private campgrounds close for the season, but Big Foot Beach State Park stays accessible for day use, with snowshoeing and cross-country skiing among the winter activities. Standard sites at Wisconsin state parks remain reservation-only year-round rather than switching to first-come, first-served.

Site types vary widely across the area. Big Foot Beach State Park has about one hundred sites laid out in loops with gravel pads, fire rings, and picnic tables. Thirty-four sites have electric pedestals, and the campground has a dump station, vault toilets, and a shower building. Most sites can handle RVs up to forty feet, and a few accommodate rigs up to fifty-five feet. There are no water or sewer hookups at individual sites. Private parks tend to offer more hookups. Scenic Ridge Campground provides water and 20/30/50-amp electric at all nightly sites with a central dump station rather than site sewer, and it welcomes RVs and tents. Expect gravel or grass pads, mixed shade, and a fourteen-day stay limit within any twenty-one-day period at the state park. Coachmans Terrace Park is RV-oriented, and Silo Ridge restricts guests to age fifty-five and older.
