Campgrounds near Elkhorn, Wisconsin
Elkhorn sits in Walworth County in southeast Wisconsin, roughly midway between Madison and Milwaukee and a short drive from the Illinois state line. The area is a well-established weekend and summer destination for RV travelers, anchored by Geneva Lake to the east and a mix of smaller lakes, rolling farmland, and Kettle Moraine terrain to the north and west.
Campground options near Elkhorn range from full-hookup private parks to a state park campground. Big Foot Beach State Park sits on the shores of Lake Geneva and offers hiking trails, a family campground, a swimming beach, and picnic and playground areas. Nearby private options such as Coachmans Terrace Park, Snug Harbor Inn Campground on Turtle Lake, Scenic Ridge Campground, and Circle K Campground round out the choices for RV renters looking for hookups, longer stays, or lake access.
Most sites in the region accommodate travel trailers and Class C motorhomes, with some parks better suited to larger rigs than others.
Things to do near Elkhorn
Geneva Lake is the main draw. Boat tours, public swimming beaches, and the roughly 21-mile Geneva Lake Shore Path give families a full day out. The lake is known for its mansions and summer homes, and the trail that runs the entire perimeter is open to the public regardless of how many property lines it crosses.
Inside Big Foot Beach State Park, families can hike, swim, or fish. The park features roughly 5 to 6.5 miles of hiking trails on mostly flat terrain, plus a sand beach along Lake Geneva. The Kettle Moraine State Forest units north of Elkhorn add longer hikes, mountain biking, and paddling.
Downtown Lake Geneva, roughly ten minutes from Elkhorn, offers restaurants, shops, and boat rentals for rainy-day backup plans.

The RV season in the Elkhorn area is concentrated between late spring and mid-fall. Big Foot Beach State Park is open seasonally from late April to mid-October. Private parks such as Scenic Ridge Campground, Circle K Campground, Coachmans Terrace Park, and Snug Harbor Inn Campground on Turtle Lake generally follow a similar window, though exact opening and closing dates vary.
Summer weekends are the busiest stretch. Big Foot Beach is one of the most popular state parks in the region because it sits directly on Lake Geneva, and reservations are historically hard to get during peak weeks. Booking eight to twelve weeks ahead is a reasonable expectation for July and August, and even earlier for holiday weekends.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. During winter, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are popular at Big Foot Beach. Most campgrounds close for the winter, so RV renters should confirm dates before booking a shoulder-season trip.

How to book
Big Foot Beach uses the Wisconsin State Park reservation system. Camping reservations can be made online, typically up to 11 months in advance, and can also be made by phone. A Wisconsin State Park System vehicle admission sticker is required on all motor vehicles stopping in state parks, forests, recreation areas, trails, and campgrounds, and a two-night minimum reservation applies from mid-May through October.
Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis during the off-season from mid-September to May, and during peak season a handful of sites are held back for RVers arriving without reservations.
Private parks near Elkhorn, including Coachmans Terrace Park, Snug Harbor Inn Campground on Turtle Lake, Scenic Ridge Campground, and Circle K Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone.
What to expect
At the state park, expect a wooded, family-oriented setting close to the water. Big Foot Beach State Park has 100 campsites available by online reservation, with a gravel pad, fire ring, and picnic table at each site, 34 sites with electric pedestals, and a campground with a dump station, vault toilets, and a shower building.
Site size varies. Sites can all accommodate RVs and trailers at least 25 feet long, most can handle rigs up to 40 feet, and a few can accommodate RVs up to 55 feet. Some reviewers have noted tight interior roads and low branches, so renters with larger Class A or fifth-wheel rigs should look closely at site dimensions before booking.
Private parks in the area typically offer water, electric, and sewer hookups, laundry, and family amenities such as pools or playgrounds. Cellular coverage is generally reliable throughout Walworth County.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Elkhorn%2C%20WisconsinDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Elkhorn, Wisconsin?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Wisconsin does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for motorhomes or travel trailers used recreationally, no matter the size. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform when you book. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto club before your trip, usually for under $20, and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised at how straightforward Wisconsin makes the whole process.

Many beginners pick a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Elkhorn to ease in. Pro tip: do your first night at Elkhorn Campgrounds, only a few miles from pickup, so you can practice setup with the host still a phone call away.

The terrain is rolling glacial farmland with gentle hills, sitting around 900 feet of elevation, and the main routes (US-12, WI-67, and I-43) are wide, well-maintained, and have minimal sharp grades. Summer is straightforward, but watch for sudden thunderstorms in July and August and busy weekend traffic into Lake Geneva. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, so check the Wisconsin 511 site for road conditions if you're traveling off-season. Pro tip: avoid downtown Lake Geneva in a large rig on summer Saturdays. Park at Big Foot Beach State Park instead and take the shore path or a quick rideshare into town.

Pro tip: ask the host for a written checklist at pickup. It keeps everyone on the same page and your deposit safe.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Elkhorn during winter?
Yes, winter RV rentals in Elkhorn are available, and they're a fun way to experience Wisconsin's snowy season at places like the Kettle Moraine State Forest for cross-country skiing or the Geneva Lake ice castles event. Look for listings that mention four-season use, heated and enclosed holding tanks, and a working furnace, because Elkhorn nights from December through February regularly drop into the teens or single digits Fahrenheit. Plan to stay at campgrounds with shore power and winter-friendly water service, since many sites shut off water lines in freezing weather. Pro tip: ask the host about skirting, antifreeze in the plumbing, and a backup propane tank, then plan shorter driving days. Wisconsin winter daylight is short and snow squalls can pop up fast.
