Campgrounds near Footville, Wisconsin
Footville sits in Rock County in southern Wisconsin, a short drive from Janesville, Beloit, and Madison. The area is farm country crossed by the Sugar River, and most nearby campgrounds cluster along that river or off the I-90/39 corridor. RV travelers have access to full-hookup private parks, riverside family campgrounds, and the Sugar River State Trail.
Crazy Horse Campground and Sweet Minnihaha Campground both sit on the Sugar River near Brodhead in Green County and cater to families with tubing, kayaking, and shuttle service. Riversedge Campground and Restaurant offers another riverside option with tube and boat rentals paired with an on-site bar and restaurant. Milton KOA Holiday sits about a half mile east of I-90/39 at Exit 163 on State Road 59, with pull-through sites up to 100 feet and a large clubhouse. Creekview Campground rounds out the closest choices.
All five parks are within a comfortable drive of Footville, making them practical bases for exploring southern Wisconsin, the Madison lakes, and Lake Koshkonong.
Things to do near Footville
The Sugar River is the main draw. Tubing, canoeing, and kayaking runs launch directly from Crazy Horse Campground and Sweet Minnihaha Campground, both of which offer rentals and shuttle service back to the campsite. The Sugar River State Trail, a rail-trail popular with cyclists, runs about a mile from Crazy Horse Campground and passes close to other riverside parks.
Fishing on the Sugar River targets walleye and smallmouth bass, and a Wisconsin fishing license is required. Off-river, families can visit the Milton House Museum, Rotary Botanical Gardens in Janesville, and area farm markets for seasonal corn mazes and pumpkin picking. Madison and the University of Wisconsin campus sit roughly 35 to 45 minutes north for a day trip, and 10,000-acre Lake Koshkonong is a short drive for boating.

Southern Wisconsin has a humid continental climate with a short, busy camping season. Most private campgrounds in the Footville area operate roughly from early May through late October. Crazy Horse Campground publishes a season of May 1 through October 31, and Milton KOA Holiday runs its heated pool from late April through mid-October.
Peak demand runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with holiday weekends and themed weekends filling first. Family-focused parks like Crazy Horse Campground and Milton KOA Holiday post themed weekends across summer and fall, including a multi-week Halloween stretch in September and October. Booking eight to twelve weeks ahead is realistic for summer weekends, and holiday weekends often carry a three-night minimum at Milton KOA Holiday.
Shoulder weeks in May and September bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and better site selection. Winter camping options are limited: most private parks in the area close for the season, and river activities end well before that.
How to book near Footville
Reservations for private parks in the Footville area are made directly with each campground. Milton KOA Holiday takes bookings through the KOA website and account system. Its posted cancellation policy for RV and tent sites requires notice at least seven days before arrival to avoid losing one night, while sleeping cabins and deluxe cottages require fourteen days, and holiday weekends forfeit the full amount if cancelled inside the window.
Crazy Horse Campground, Sweet Minnihaha Campground, and Riversedge Campground and Restaurant accept reservations by phone or through their websites, and Sweet Minnihaha Campground also lists sites on RoverPass with instant booking on some sites. Expect per-person or extra-adult fees at several parks, and confirm whether tubing shuttles and pool wristbands are included or add-ons. For summer holiday weekends, plan several months ahead.
What to expect on site
Sites in the area range from basic tent pads to full-hookup pull-throughs with 30 and 50 amp service. Crazy Horse Campground offers riverfront and standard sites, full-hookup RV sites, cabins, and cottages, along with a heated pool, mini golf, jumping pillow, petting zoo, and a swimming pond with beach. Sweet Minnihaha Campground has 132 sites on 32 acres of Sugar River frontage, with electric and electric-water sites, tent sites, showers, flush toilets, and a dump station.
Milton KOA Holiday features grassy, level sites, an 8,000 square-foot clubhouse with game room, store, and laundry, a heated pool with a two-story deck and hot tub, and a four-acre recreation area for softball, disc golf, and horseshoes. Wi-Fi is available at most parks but can be uneven under heavy load. Pets are generally welcome on leash, quiet hours are enforced, and check-out is typically around 11 a.m.

How much does an RV rental in Footville cost, and how can I save?

Travel trailers typically start around $95 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes generally run $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs sit at the top of the range. To find a cheaper RV rental in Footville, travel midweek, choose a towable instead of a drivable, and aim for May or September when rates dip below peak summer pricing. Filter by Instant Book to catch last-minute openings from hosts with flexible calendars.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Footville%2C%20WisconsinWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Footville, WI?
For nearly every RV rental in Footville, a regular Class D driver's license is all you need. Wisconsin only requires a special license for very large or commercial vehicles, and standard rentals on RVezy fall well within normal license limits. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally required to be 25 or older, and ID verification happens right inside the platform during booking so there's no extra trip to the DMV. Visiting from outside the U.S.? A valid foreign driver's license, ideally paired with an International Driving Permit, is typically accepted. Verification usually clears within a few hours, so you can plan your trip with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Footville protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, and this is one of the biggest reasons travelers feel confident booking on RVezy. Every RV rental in Footville, WI is booked with an RVezy renter protection plan that covers eligible damage to the vehicle and includes 24/7 roadside assistance at no extra cost. You choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host, so you can match protection to your comfort level. Whether you blow a tire on Highway 11 heading toward Janesville or have a minor scrape backing into a site at Lake Kegonsa, support is just a call away. For a first time renting an RV, the higher-tier plan adds extra peace of mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Footville RV rental?
You have real flexibility, so booking early carries low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every motorhome rental in Footville, not the host, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can adjust plans without stress. Refund outcomes depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will refund your booking or help you rebook. Full details live in the RVezy Help Center, and customer support is available if you need to talk through options. Book sooner rather than later, since summer dates around Madison and Janesville fill up fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Footville RV trip?
Yes, and Wisconsin is a fantastic state for it. Plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Footville, so toggle the Pet Friendly filter on RVezy to see only listings that welcome your pup. Once you are on the road, there are terrific options nearby: Lake Kegonsa State Park (about 35 minutes northwest) allows leashed dogs on most trails and has a designated pet swim area, and Magnolia Bluff County Park near Evansville is open to leashed pets. Most Janesville and Beloit campgrounds also accept dogs, often with a small nightly fee. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet deposit, and pack a long lead so your dog can enjoy the campsite hands-free.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/petsinparksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Footville?
Yes, RV delivery in Footville is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow or drive the rig to your campground, set up the slides and awning, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. That is a game-changer if you would rather not drive a 30-foot motorhome on I-90 from the start. Popular delivery destinations include Blackhawk Camping Resort in Milton, Hickory Hills Campground near Edgerton, and Lake Kegonsa State Park. Use the Delivery filter when searching, and message the host to confirm the delivery fee, which is usually quoted per mile round-trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Footville%2C%20WisconsinHow far can I travel on a Footville RV trip, and do rentals come with unlimited mileage?
You have plenty of road to explore, and yes, RV rental with unlimited mileage is available on RVezy if you filter for it. Hosts set their own mileage policies, with many offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and reasonable per-mile fees beyond that. From Footville you are well positioned: Madison is about 40 miles north, Wisconsin Dells around 100 miles, Devil's Lake State Park about 95 miles, Milwaukee 90 miles east, and Chicago roughly 110 miles south. Popular RV road trips from Footville include a Driftless Area loop through southwestern Wisconsin or a Lake Geneva escape. Estimate your total mileage before booking and pick a host whose included miles match your plans.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Footville%2C%20WisconsinWhere are the best campgrounds near Footville, WI?

A few favorites: Lake Kegonsa State Park (about 35 minutes north) offers wooded sites with electric hookups and lake access; Hickory Hills Campground in Edgerton has full hookups roughly 20 minutes away; Blackhawk Camping Resort in Milton features a pool, mini-golf, and 50-amp service about 25 minutes away; and Sweet Minihaha Campground near Janesville sits along the Rock River. dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/campingWhen is the best time to visit Footville in an RV?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for an RV trip in Footville. Daytime highs typically range from the upper 60s in May to the low 80s in July and back into the 60s by October. July is peak camping season, while September brings cooler nights (great for campfires) and far fewer mosquitoes. Fall foliage usually peaks in early to mid-October across southern Wisconsin and is genuinely spectacular along the Rock River and through the Driftless Area. Winter rentals are possible with cold-weather-ready rigs, but most renters target May through October. Late September is a sweet spot to catch sweet corn, area apple orchards, and Rock County's fall vibes without the July crowds.
weather.gov/mkx/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will be just fine, and Footville is a great place to start. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, covering how to drive, dump tanks, run the generator, extend slides, and hook up at a campsite. You are not handed keys and waved off. Southern Wisconsin's roads are flat, well-marked, and forgiving, with wide rural highways like US-14 and WI-11 perfect for getting comfortable behind the wheel. If you would rather skip driving entirely, book a host who offers delivery and they will bring the RV right to your campsite. Take 15 extra minutes during the walkthrough to practice backing up in an empty lot before you hit the road.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat if something goes wrong on the road?
You are never alone. Every RV rental in Footville, WI booked with an RVezy protection plan includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on I-90, a dead battery at Lake Kegonsa, or a tow off WI-213 is handled with one phone call. RVezy customer support is also available during your trip, and your host is typically just a message away for quick questions about the rig's specific quirks. Most issues like lockouts, jump-starts, and tire changes are resolved quickly thanks to Janesville and Madison being so close. Save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Footville rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes. Cross-state RV trips are popular and easy from Footville, since you are just about 12 miles from the Illinois border and within day-driving distance of Iowa, Minnesota, and Michigan. Chicago, the Wisconsin Dells, Door County, and the Mississippi River bluffs are all within a tank or two of fuel. Canada travel may be allowed but depends on the host and insurance, so message the host directly before booking if a cross-border trip is on the table. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. A Footville to Galena, Illinois weekend (about 75 miles) is a beloved local route with stunning river bluff scenery.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Wisconsin RV trip?
Fuel costs are easier to estimate than you might think. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 mpg, Class B campervans 16 to 22 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Wisconsin gas prices generally track close to the national average. For a typical 300-mile loop from Footville to Devil's Lake and back in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel at current prices. Fuel up in Janesville or Beloit where prices are often lower than at highway exits, and use a price-comparison app to spot the cheapest stations along US-14 and I-90. Filling before returning the RV also helps you avoid the host's refueling service fee.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Footville?
For Wisconsin state parks, book as early as you can. Lake Kegonsa, Yellowstone Lake, and Devil's Lake all open reservations up to 11 months in advance through the Wisconsin DNR reservation system, and summer weekends (especially around July 4th and Labor Day) often sell out within hours. Private campgrounds like Blackhawk Camping Resort and Hickory Hills are usually bookable 3 to 6 months ahead with more flexibility. For a weeknight stay in May or September, you can often score a site just a few days out. If a popular state park looks full, check back two weeks before your trip, since Wisconsin DNR releases cancellations that get scooped up fast.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/reservationsWhat are local driving conditions like around Footville?
Driving an RV around Footville is genuinely relaxing. The terrain is gently rolling farmland with wide, flat highways like US-14, WI-213, and I-90, and traffic is light outside of Madison and Janesville rush hours. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk year-round, since Rock County has one of the higher deer-vehicle collision rates in the state, and slow down on county roads after rain since shoulders can be soft. Summer thunderstorms occasionally roll through with strong crosswinds, so check the forecast before driving. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, so plan accordingly if booking off-season. Avoid I-90 through Madison during weekday 4 to 6 p.m. rush, especially on Fridays heading to the Dells.
511wi.gov/What amenities and hookups can I expect at campgrounds near Footville?
Most campgrounds near Footville are well-equipped for RVs. Private parks like Blackhawk Camping Resort and Hickory Hills offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer) at most sites, typically with 30 or 50-amp service, plus dump stations, potable water fill, laundry, hot showers, and Wi-Fi. Wisconsin state parks like Lake Kegonsa and Yellowstone Lake usually have electric-only sites with a central dump station and water fill near the entrance, so you will arrive with empty tanks and full freshwater. Dump stations are also available at select locations along I-90 in the Janesville area. Ask your host whether they include a basic kit (sewer hose, water hose, pressure regulator), since most do but it is good to confirm.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/campingWhat is actually included inside an RV rental in Footville?
More than you would expect. A typical campervan rental in Footville or motorhome rental in Footville comes with real beds (queens or doubles), a working kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with air conditioning and propane furnace, a dinette that converts to extra sleeping, and seatbelted passenger seats. Most listings include linens, cookware, and basic kitchen tools, and many offer Wi-Fi hotspots or generators as add-ons. Family RV trips in Footville often go with a Class C sleeping 6 to 8 with bunk beds. Check the listing's amenity list and message the host if anything specific (like a coffee maker or outdoor grill) matters to you.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Footville%2C%20WisconsinWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Footville offer a range of add-ons to customize your trip: generators, bike racks, kayaks, camping chairs, fire pits, kitchen kits, linen packages, and outdoor mats are all common. Many also offer festival-friendly setups if you are heading to a Madison-area event or a Wisconsin music festival. For pickup and dropoff, you will either meet the host at their location or arrange delivery to your campsite. Mileage policies vary, so check the listing: some offer unlimited miles, while others provide 100 to 150 free miles per night with a modest per-mile fee beyond. Bundling delivery, a generator, and a kitchen kit can make your first RV trip feel completely turnkey, especially for families.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Footville%2C%20WisconsinHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Footville, WI, RVezy charges your card for the booking total (rental, fees, and your chosen protection plan) through the platform, so there is no cash or check exchange with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately, with the amount set per listing, and it is released after the trip once the host confirms the rig was returned clean, undamaged, and with the agreed fuel and mileage levels. To avoid deposit issues, take dated photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, refill fuel and propane as agreed, and dump tanks before returning if your host requires it. A quick walkthrough video at return is great extra documentation.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat about winter RV rentals in Footville?
Winter RV trips are possible in southern Wisconsin and can be magical if you are prepared. Footville winters run cold, with December through February highs averaging in the 20s to low 30s F and overnight lows often dipping into the single digits or below. Look for listings tagged as four-season or winter-ready, which usually means heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and proper insulation. Plan to stay at a campground with shore power (30 or 50-amp), since running the furnace overnight drains propane fast. Devil's Lake and Governor Dodge State Parks keep select sites open year-round for hardy campers. Message your host before booking a winter trip to confirm the rig's cold-weather rating and ask about skirting the RV to retain heat.
