Campgrounds and RV parks near Hartford, WI

At Pike Lake, RV travellers can hike nine trails through wetlands, hardwood stands, and glacial terrain, climb the observation tower on Powder Hill for a panoramic view, and swim, paddle, or fish for walleye, panfish, bass, and northern pike on the 522-acre lake. A segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail runs through the unit. About 30 miles northwest, Horicon Marsh spans more than 33,000 acres and is one of the largest freshwater cattail marshes in the United States. Visitors can drive the auto tour, walk the floating Egret Trail boardwalk, and look for roughly 300 recorded bird species, with peak variety from mid-April through mid-May and from mid-September through October, when Canada geese often number over 200,000. West Bend, the Holy Hill Basilica, and the Eisenbahn State Trail add rainy-day and cycling options.

Hartford has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. The Pike Lake campground is open from late April through the third weekend in October, and most private campgrounds in the area run roughly mid-April through early or mid-October. Outside that window, RV travellers should expect closed campgrounds, winterized water systems, and limited services. Late May through early September is the core booking season, when daytime highs typically sit in the upper 70s Fahrenheit and lake water is warm enough for swimming. June is among the wettest months locally, and thunderstorms and severe weather are most frequent from May through early September, so awning discipline matters. Fall brings cooler nights and strong migration traffic at Horicon Marsh from mid-September through October, along with reliable foliage in the Kettle Moraine. Winter is cold and snowy, but the Ice Age Trail, refuge trails, and marked cross-country ski and snowshoe routes stay open year-round for day use.

Pike Lake offers a wooded, single-loop state-forest campground with a shower building, flush toilets, a dump station, water fountains, and firewood and ice sold at the camp host site. Sites are relatively close together, some lower sites can be damp after rain, and only 11 have electric hookups, so larger rigs relying on air conditioning should reserve the electric sites early. Private campgrounds around Hartford and West Bend generally provide fuller hookups with 20, 30, and often 50-amp service, Wi-Fi, laundry, and lake access. Amenities and rig-length limits vary by park, so confirm with the operator when booking. Expect mosquitoes near marshes and lakes in early summer, and note that Wisconsin restricts moving firewood; buy it locally or at the campground.
