Campgrounds near Oregon, Wisconsin
Oregon is a small village in Dane County, roughly ten miles south of Madison, and it sits within easy reach of both state park campgrounds and privately run RV parks. The surrounding landscape is classic southern Wisconsin: glacial lakes, oak woodlands, prairie remnants, and rolling farmland shaped by the last ice age. Lake Kegonsa State Park sits along the shores of Lake Kegonsa, a 3,200-acre lake known for excellent fishing, and it is the closest state-run option and a popular base for RV travelers exploring the area.
For renters who want full hookups or a more resort-style stay, Badgerland Campground, Viking Village Campground, and Sweet Minnihaha Campground offer private-park amenities within a short drive. New Glarus Woods State Park, southwest of Oregon in Green County, adds a quieter, more wooded alternative near the Sugar River State Trail.
Madison sits just north, so groceries, propane, dump stations, and RV service are all within a short drive of any campground on this list.
Things to do near Oregon, Wisconsin
Water recreation drives most trips. The lake is shared by boats, kayaks, canoes, sailboats and other personal watercraft, there is a boat launch at the park, and Lake Kegonsa has a designated swimming beach and a bathhouse nearby. Anglers target walleye, bass, northern pike, and panfish, and hiking trails wind through oak woodlands, prairies, and wetlands.
Cyclists can pick up the Badger State Trail directly from Oregon and connect south to the Sugar River State Trail, which runs through New Glarus. New Glarus itself is a Swiss-themed village with bakeries, cheese shops, and a well-known brewery.
Downtown Madison, the State Capitol, the Henry Vilas Zoo, and the University of Wisconsin Arboretum are all within a short drive, giving families rainy-day and rest-day options beyond the campground.

The family and group campgrounds at Lake Kegonsa are open from May 1 through October 31. Showers and flush toilets may be unavailable in early May and late October due to seasonal water system shutdowns, and the dump station follows a similar pattern. Summer, from mid-June through late August, is peak season: warm lake temperatures, long daylight, and full campground services, but also the highest demand for reservations.
Spring brings unpredictable weather and muddy trails, but also quieter campgrounds and strong fishing. Fall delivers reliable color through the oak and maple woodlands in late September and October, with cool nights that suit RV travel.
Winter camping is limited. The park offers about 5.1 miles of hiking trails and 5.5 miles of cross-country ski trails, along with sledding and ice fishing on the lake, but most private campgrounds in the area close for the season and water service at the state parks is shut off.

How to book campgrounds near Oregon
Wisconsin state park sites, including Lake Kegonsa State Park and New Glarus Woods State Park, are reserved through the state system. Reservations can be made on the same day of arrival or up to 11 months before the planned occupancy date, online or by calling 1-888-947-2757 via wisconsin.goingtocamp.com. All state parks require a vehicle admission sticker in addition to the camping fee.
Electric sites at Lake Kegonsa are limited: the campground features 96 campsites, 29 of which are equipped with electrical hookups, so book early for summer weekends and holidays. Private parks such as Badgerland Campground, Viking Village Campground, and Sweet Minnihaha Campground handle bookings directly through their own websites or by phone, and typically offer more full-hookup sites suited to larger rental RVs.
What to expect on-site
State park sites in this area are wooded and rustic. At Lake Kegonsa, sites 1-9 and 87-93 are partially wooded, and the rest of the sites are heavily wooded, and the campground accommodates tents, pop-ups, trailers, and RVs with one wheeled camping unit allowed per site. Facilities include flush toilets and showers near the campground entrance, three vault toilets distributed throughout, and drinking water at multiple locations, with a sanitary dump station located between the family and group camping areas.
Private campgrounds in the area generally offer full hookups, camp stores, and family amenities such as pools or playgrounds. Cell service is reliable across the Oregon and Madison corridor. A concessionaire sells firewood on all weekends during the camping season and daily during the Memorial Day to Labor Day season, and out-of-area firewood is restricted to help control invasive pests.

Pro tip: time your visit for the Dane County Farmers' Market season in Madison (Saturdays, mid-April through early November) for one of the country's largest producer-only markets.

As long as the RV is returned in the agreed condition, with the agreed fuel level and no extra mileage, the deposit hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: do a thorough walkaround video with your host at both pickup and dropoff in Oregon, and keep all communication inside the RVezy app so any questions are documented and resolved fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Oregon, WI for winter or cold-weather camping?
Yes, winter RV camping in Wisconsin is a real adventure, and some Oregon-area hosts list four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, upgraded furnaces, and skirting that make sub-freezing nights comfortable. Lake Kegonsa State Park offers year-round day use, and ice fishing on Lake Waubesa and Lake Kegonsa is a beloved local tradition from January through early March. Message the host to confirm cold-weather readiness, shore power requirements, and antifreeze procedures before booking. Pro tip: grab a Friday fish fry in downtown Oregon at one of the local supper clubs to warm up after a day on the ice.
