Campgrounds and RV parks near Palmyra, WI

Palmyra sits inside the Kettle Moraine State Forest Southern Unit, more than 22,000 acres of glacial hills and lakes in southeast Wisconsin. The forest lies roughly 60 miles east of Madison and under 40 miles southwest of Milwaukee, which puts most Chicago and Milwaukee RV renters within a two-hour drive. The area combines Wisconsin DNR campgrounds inside the state forest with a bench of private RV parks in the surrounding towns. Circle K Campground and Bark River Campground and Resort sit closest to Palmyra itself, while Scenic Ridge Campground and Snug Harbor Inn Campground on Turtle Lake extend the options south and west. Families traveling with kids often base out of Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Fort Atkinson, about a half-hour drive west. Between the state forest units and the private parks, the region supports everything from tent camping and equestrian sites to full-hookup pull-throughs long enough for large motorhomes.

State forest sites are booked through the Wisconsin DNR reservation system at wisconsin.goingtocamp.com. Reservations are required and can be made on the same day of arrival or up to 11 months before the planned occupancy date, and campers must make a reservation before setting up on any site. Bookings can also be placed by calling 1-888-947-2757 (1-888-WIPARKS). New availability for the date 11 months out opens at 9 a.m. Central Time, so setting an alarm for the rolling date is the standard tactic for popular summer weekends. For family sites, advance reservations booked before May 15 for stays between May 15 and October 31 require a minimum two-night stay. A vehicle admission pass is required for every vehicle entering a state park or forest in addition to the campsite fee. Private parks in the area, including Circle K Campground, Bark River Campground and Resort, Scenic Ridge Campground, Snug Harbor Inn Campground on Turtle Lake, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Fort Atkinson, book directly through their own websites or by phone.
