Port Washington camping overview
Port Washington sits on Lake Michigan in Ozaukee County, roughly 30 miles north of Milwaukee and 20 miles south of Sheboygan along Interstate 43. The area gives RV travelers access to two Wisconsin state parks on the lake plus several private campgrounds inland toward West Bend and the Kettle Moraine.
The closest state park option is Harrington Beach State Park in Belgium, a Lake Michigan shoreline park with a limestone quarry lake ringed by white cedars. About 12 miles north, Kohler-Andrae State Park runs a larger campground behind the dunes south of Sheboygan.
Private options west of the city include Lazy Days Campground and Lake Lenwood Beach and Campground near West Bend, and Hager's Hilly Haven Campground toward Cascade and Plymouth. These trade the lakeshore setting for full RV hookups, inland swim lakes, and family amenities.
Things to do near Port Washington
Beach time and hiking anchor most trips. Harrington Beach State Park offers a sandy Lake Michigan beach, trails around Quarry Lake, and access for swimming and paddling. Kohler-Andrae adds ancient dunes, more than two miles of sandy beach, and a boardwalk through the dune landscape.
Inland, Lake Lenwood Beach and Campground sits on a glacial lake with a sandy beach and boat and paddle rentals. Lazy Days Campground has a swim lake, mini golf, and an arcade for kids.
Off-site, Port Washington's marina and downtown, Cedarburg's historic center, and the Kettle Moraine State Forest trail network are all within an easy drive.

The state park campgrounds follow different calendars. The Harrington Beach family campground is open from the first Wednesday in May into October, with showers and flush toilets available during the warm-weather season. Kohler-Andrae's 137-site campground is open all year, with showers, flush toilets, and laundry available only during the warm-weather season, and a subset of family sites and both group sites are plowed for winter camping.
Private campgrounds run a shorter season, generally opening in April or May and closing at the end of October. Book direct with each operator for current opening and closing dates.
July and August are peak. Weekends at both state parks book out well in advance, and a minimum three-night reservation is required on holiday weekends. Late September and early October bring cooler nights, fewer crowds, and fall color inland toward the Kettle Moraine, but Lake Michigan water stays cold most of the year.

James was excellent. We enjoyed our time and would definitely consider renting from him again in the future!

This RV was exactly what our weekend at Road America needed. James delivered right on time and picked up promptly too. All the essentials worked perfectly and we were able to keep warm on cold days and sleep well too. I would 100% rent again from James in this area.

How to book campgrounds near Port Washington
Wisconsin state park sites at Harrington Beach and Kohler-Andrae are reserved online at wisconsin.goingtocamp.com, and all sites can be reserved. Reservations open up to 11 months before the start date, with each day's inventory released at 9 a.m. Central Time. Popular summer weekends at both parks are typically claimed the day they release. A vehicle admission sticker is required in addition to the camping fee.
Private campgrounds book direct through each operator. Lazy Days, Lake Lenwood Beach and Campground, and Hager's Hilly Haven Campground all rent seasonal sites, so short-stay inventory tightens as the summer fills.
For July, August, and holiday weekends, book as far ahead as the system allows. Midweek stays and shoulder-season dates in May, September, and October are easier to secure on shorter notice.
What to expect at Port Washington campgrounds
Harrington Beach has 31 sites with 50-amp electric, 33 non-electric sites, and five walk-to sites, and each campsite has a fire ring and picnic table. There are no per-site water or sewer hookups, but a trailer dump station and a freshwater fill-up station are available near the campground entrance. Kohler-Andrae is similar: a 137-unit family campground with 52 electric sites, no water or sewer at sites, and a trailer dump station and freshwater fill-up station in the park.
Private campgrounds offer more RV infrastructure, including full hookups and Wi-Fi at many sites. Expect mosquitoes near the wetlands in early summer and cool lake breezes at the state parks even in July. Only certified firewood or firewood originating from within 10 miles of the park is allowed into Wisconsin state parks.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Port Washington, WI?
RV rental in Port Washington is one of the more affordable ways to enjoy Lake Michigan's western shore. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run about $150 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs land in the $250 to $400 range. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Port+Washington%2C+WisconsinDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Port Washington?
Good news for first-timers: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Port Washington for virtually every rig on RVezy. Wisconsin does not require a special license or CDL for personal-use recreational vehicles, regardless of size. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and ID is verified inside the booking flow, so there are no extra trips to the DMV. Visiting from abroad? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association before you fly into Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, about 30 miles south, and you're road-ready.

There's a money-back grace period after booking, and additional protections apply for qualifying events, a helpful safety net on Wisconsin's lakeshore where lake-effect snow or summer storms can shift plans. The cancellation policy isn't displayed on individual listings because it's an RVezy-managed process. If your dates shift, reach out to RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options, including refunds or travel credits when a host cancels.

Most local campgrounds welcome pets too. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and whether they include perks like a bowl, leash hook, or outdoor mat.

If you're nervous about driving, choose a Class C motorhome or campervan (Class B) under 25 feet, or book a host who offers delivery so the RV is already set up when you arrive. Practice with a short loop on Highway 32 north toward Belgium first.

Every RV rental in Port Washington booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a dead battery, flat tire, lockout, or mechanical hiccup is one phone call away from help. For mechanical issues, the closest major service hub is in Milwaukee, about 30 miles south, but most roadside calls in the Port Washington area are resolved on-site. Save the RVezy support number in your phone before pickup and travel with full confidence.
