Campgrounds and RV parks near Sheboygan, WI

Lake Michigan defines most outdoor plans. Beach walking, swimming, and shoreline fishing are standard at Kohler-Andrae State Park, and visitors can hike along the beach, venture out onto the sand dunes, or hike one of the park's nature trails, kayak and canoe on Lake Michigan, and fish on the lake or at the fishing pond located in the park. Harrington Beach State Park adds a quarry lake and a stretch of undeveloped Lake Michigan beach. Inland, the Kettle Moraine State Forest offers wooded hiking and biking within a short drive. Elkhart Lake's Road America hosts sports-car, motorcycle, and IndyCar events across the warm months, with camping available on the grounds during race weekends. In Sheboygan itself, families can visit the Above and Beyond Children's Museum, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, and the harbor boardwalk. The city is also known for bratwurst, with several long-running local spots between the campgrounds and the beach.

The Sheboygan camping season runs primarily from May through mid-October. The growing season typically runs from the last frost around May 1 to May 10 through the first frost around October 11 to October 20, and most private campground amenities follow that window. Summer weekends, particularly around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day, book heavily. The Kohler-Andrae campground is open all year, and during the warm weather season, showers, flush toilet and laundry facilities are available in the family campground. Campsites do not have water or sewer hookups, but a trailer dump station and a freshwater fill-up station are available in the park. Family campsites 3, 15, 19, 22, 23, 28, 32, 33 and Group sites A and B are plowed for winter camping. Fall brings cooler nights, thinner crowds, and color through the Kettle Moraine. Winter camping is possible at Kohler-Andrae, but expect limited services and cold, windy conditions off the lake.

State-park sites near Sheboygan are RV-friendly but rustic in places. The park has a 137-unit family campground, including 52 sites with electrical hookups. Each campsite has a campfire ring and a picnic table, and each site is limited to one wheeled camping unit and two vehicles which must be parked on the campsite driveway. There are no water or sewer hookups at individual sites, though a dump station and freshwater fill-up are on-site. Sites sit in a park-like campground behind the back dune along Lake Michigan; most are paved and spacious, some shaded and semi-private, others open, with electric loops and shared showers and laundry in the campground. Expect lake-effect breezes, cool evenings even in summer, and mosquitoes near wooded loops. Private resorts inland typically offer full hookups, pools, and family activities.
